I tried that but it errors out if I boot with eject.  I saw reference to the fact that this mod is clearing out C: so I may have to put the base dash back there to get that to work.  Not such a high priority at the moment, though.  This one will never go on Xbox Live.

I do need an svid cable, though, as that is the best nonVGA signal my projector will take.  I am not sure yet if the VGA hack is worthwhile.

Which version of XBMC are you using?  One from t3ch?  http://t3ch.yi.se/

Isn't there a hardware mod for that?  You could add an IR sensor in line with the power button or something similar.  I could swear I saw that done a while back.

I gotta say, they've really improved XBMC since I was playing with it 2-3 years ago.  Now if you could just get a damned power button on the remote, I'd be set.

+1    I can turn it OFF with the remote but I'd love to be able to turn it on with it...

IR mod.

Not a drop in simple mod but could be done if you really wanted it.

I have an IR mod on mine and two of my brothers. (Bought package) It is pretty easy with that. Kinda spendy though.

Glad you got it working Chad. I would have never tried a different mobo I don't think. I have only had to unlock the drive with an audio track once. All others worked just sitting at the dash. Did you run a ground cable from the xbox to the pc case? That is about the only thing I could think of.

Nope, I used the PC power supply to power the drive so I didn't have to do that.

Yep my modded Xbox with XBMC gets used more than anything in my house. I don't have a blue ray player, but I do rip a lot of flicks and have them ready anytime I want. More or less movie on demand with my NAS and internal storage.

I think the wife likes it more than I do, which I find kinda funny. I have these disks laying around with Xbox written on them and I think the natives call them games, but I'm not sure what they do. ;)

I just got my 2nd 1TB drive for my system. I now have about 3TB of space. I also just hit the 600 mark for movies and I have almost 2300 TV episodes. Best thing ever. I have 2 xboxs in the house and they get used ALL the time.

What is this thing ye call thine X-B-O-X ?
I want to play moosac on mine.

Yes, I do believe I'm at the low end of the power curve here, just touched an XBOX for the first time, I'm sure it'll go horribly wrong here shortly.

Well, I dove in and with a bit of fanaglin' before I could get started due to no "memory card", things have actually gone quite good.

One question for you folks who have done softmods on the XBOX......

I'm trying to set it up where I can "stream" media content form one of our PC's until I can get a bigger drive for the box.
Now I can FTP into the XBOX no problem from my pc, swap files all day long.
But I can't seem to FTP the other way around. Nor does it seem to allow me to add a shared folder or files that are on my pc.
I'm sure I'm missing something simple, just trying to narrow it down.
Wondering if maybe it's a setting on my Linksys router I'm missing. (thought I had checked all that)

Any suggestions on the steps I should try or go through ?

If you're using XBMC, you can go to videos, add source, then select SMB network, browse to your computer, point to your folder, and it should work.

That's a pretty simple explanation so ask if you need more help.  Make sure you are sharing your files on the PC too.  And allow the XBox to access your PC through your firewall.

Seems like that's what I tried, but I'll have to poke at it again to remember if it was n "SMB" network or not that I tried.

And allow the XBox to access your PC through your firewall.

That's the part I was unsure of if I had done everything correctly.
I thought it would have connected similar to any other pc in the house. (have four networked through same router) So I wasn't certain if I needed to anything extra particular to it being an "XBOX" versus PC.
Or if I had to set special ports and such, yada, yada.

I'll play with it some more this evening, been a couple weeks since I messed with that part of it.

No software firewall.
Even disabled the Linksys router firewall until I figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Even poked around with setting my pc up with a DMZ Host IP Address. (No idea what that's for really)

Hadn't had a chance to mess with it yet this evening.
Will do though, maybe go back to square one and try it again.

That did it.

I went back and disabled the DMZ stuff on the router and everything else had farted with and went back and tried it again and it worked like a charm.
Last couple times I had tried it would see the pc, set up the shortcut to it, but then when I tried to actually access it then it would fail. (I forget what error now)
But anyways, it's working now..... streaming smoothly.
Which is cool because I still have the factory harddrive in this box, so not a lot of space yet.

Thanks again, ya got me pointed in the right direction.

Outstanding.  I fooled around with it for awhile too before I tried SMB.  Being able to stream video when your hard drive is 8 gigs is definitely a plus.

Yeah, I know I originally steered away from the SMB Network option thinking I would have to have "Samba" or something always running on the shared pc..... so I never even tried that. (not knowing anything about it)

But it's working great, been streaming all kinds of stuff to it for awhile now.
(realizing I have a lot of file cleanup I need to do on my pc)   :laugh2:

I know that DVD2Xbox can rip games to the hard drive, but can it also rip DVD movies to the hard drive as well?

Haven't tried it, but short answer is yes.
It's a "disc" to xbox copier.

http://dvd2xbox.xbox-scene.com/

Quote
dvd2xbox is a disc to hdd/smb/ftp copy program for the xbox which supports the following formats:

    * XBox Games: makes a backup of your original games. You're done with a few clicks. Use game name as directory name. Disables all known media checks and let you run the game from any medium.
    * Video DVD: makes a backup of your original movie DVD. Supports css to decrypt the movie during copy.
    * Audio CD: makes a backup of your original CDDA. Rips Audiotracks and encodes them to ogg vorbis, MP3 or WAV. Supports freecddb to name your tracks.
    * ISO9660: copy your burned S/VCD and mp3 CDs.

I must just love bumping a "solved" thread.   ;D

Anywho.... just noticed the other night when I pop a DVD in my XBOX now when it finishes recognizing the disc it then turns around and want to go to XBOX ONLINEDASH..... and then it just more or less craps out and does nothing.

Running UnleashX from the Auto Installer Deluxe.
Haven't tried it through XBMC yet.

Any ideas on why it may be trying to go to the onlinedash in the first place ?
Maybe something from the softmod I need to reload ?

FWIW I didn't upgrade the drive on any of the Xboxes I use.  Everything gets streamed and it always works well.  They don't all work that well as DVD players but streaming is pretty damn good.

I plan on streaming most of our movies and such once I get a large enough drive to stuff a bunch of our DVD's onto.
The few I have thrown on my my PC stream quite nicely to the XBOX.

I probably wouldn't have even noticed this particular issue, because I hadn't planned on playing DVD's on it. But my daughters boyfriend came over and brought a DVD of his Marine bootcamp, so I figured I'd just pop it in the XBOX because it was handy....... eh, here come the XBOX Onlinedash thingy popping up.

If it helps I keep my movies/music/streamer stuff on an external drive via USB and it works well.  No latency issues even with a cheap USB hub involved.  That way it's partitioned away from the OS and application drives and you can upgrade the capacity with ease.

just noticed the other night when I pop a DVD in my XBOX now when it finishes recognizing the disc it then turns around and want to go to XBOX ONLINEDASH..... and then it just more or less craps out and does nothing.

Solved this in a round about way........

Even though UnleashX was directed to use the xboxdash.xbe as it's suppose to, it wouldn't work. (crashed)
I directed UnleashX to use the xboxdash.xbe in the MS backup folder and it plays DVD's just fine now.
Did notice that there was a file size difference between the two .xbe's.
Kinda leary about swapping those .xbe files around, so I'll leave well enough alone.
