Gauntlet Legends (ded) monitor
« on: March 07, 2009, 02:07:18 am »
Hey guys,

I have a weird issue with my monitor in my Ded Gauntlet Legends. I'm thinking its the flyback, but i'm not 100% sure.

If I turn the game on, after awhile the picture will start to appear out of focus, and the longer its on, the worse it gets. However, I can adjust the focus, and correct the problem. However, if I turn it off, and turn it back on later, it will do the exact opposite. It will start out, out of focus, then as its on for awhile, it will start to come into focus. lol

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Todd

a few things will cause that, most likely the flyback but you need to check for bad connections on the crt socket and neck card including bad solder joints
does the focus adjustment pot feel smooth when you adjust
how good is the actual picture when you focus it,are the colours good and rich

Yeah. When I adjust the monitor's focus, it looks "perfect".

Does the focus get "jumpy" if you slightly wiggle the pot on the flyback?
(like it's sensitive)

And like grant mentioned.... I would check all the common solder joints on both the main chassis and the neckboard.
Just good practice to do that anyways.

What's the monitor model?
Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.

I'll have to double check the focus again tomorrow to see if it's jumpy. The monitor is a k7500

don't rule out the crt skt .

had a few tv's over the years w/corrosion inside the skt .
focus voltage is 8kv-12kv on average.
that is certainly high enough to arc along the "gunk"   ;)
