I've been waiting to talk about this ever since I first saw it because it's going to be freaking awesome.  I think this may become a must buy for any puzzle/platformer lovers out there.

No other original Blob fans out there?  And for those who hate Wii games that tack on waggle controls just because they can:

"we felt the best route was to take advantage of the Wii's 2D capabilities, the ease of control using the Wiimote and the Nunchuck, and not bog down the player additional "waggle" simply for the sake of "waggle.""

Finally, a Wii game with no gimmicky controls  ;D

I hadn't heard of this game before, but then I never was much of a nintendo fan. It looks nice though.

Pimping your own product?  For shame.   ;)
Technically it's my companies product, not mine, since I'm not on this project (though I wish I was).   ;D  This is one game I've actually been excited about ever since I first heard about it (the day I started the new job), so I probably would of been posting about it even if I didn't work for them.

For those who need a primer on the original game:

Bumping this thread back to the top since the game has been released and I want to pimp the product again :)  Most of us here are classic video games fans, and this game really is a throwback to the classic 2d puzzle-platformers.  If you like a challenge, then this one is for you.  I highly recommend it.

And if you're wondering, it currently has an 81 on Metacritic:  http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/wii/boyandhisblob

Also, my first game was released this past month as well.  It's a baseball themed minigame collection called Baseball Blast, and even though it has an initial retail price of $20, it's actually pretty good and not complete shovelware.  Metacritic only has one review for it (60%), but there are number of reviews from lesser known sites not listed and the general consensus seems to be 3/5 review score (although it did get an 89 from one place) and it "doesn't suck"  :P  Personally I think its a perfect game for boys around the age of 8-10 and an amazing bargain for $20 (I can't believe they decided to sell it for that low).

Was there some random, weird tie in to A Boy and His Dog that I never picked up on?

That would have only made the game a thousand times better.

Same here.  I was one of those kids who played and passed ALL the big-name games.  A Boy and His Blob was one that for one reason or another I just never played, though I heard about it plenty.  Kid Icarus was another like that.  It just wasn't ever part of my childhood.

Anyway, yeah, this does look pretty cool.  Hopefully I get a chance to check it out sometime.

Yeah, I first played it back in the day on NESticle and it was so stinkin' hard, I never gave it another shot. Maybe I will now (original, not the Wii-make...)

Dude, that game is brutal. It was only when the Game Genie came out that I finally played it completely.

Game Genie, really?

The hardest part was the end levels when you would get the curse. Everything else was pretty simple. Actually one of my Fav NES games was Kid Icarus. I would like to see that one re-done.

As for ABAHB, I played that one to death too, though it made me furious that it wouldn't tell you what beans did what, I had to note them all down...which was crappy.

Is this just a graphical update to the game, or is it a complete re-invention?

Complete re-invention, although it still holds fairly true to the original.

I just got to the third world...er second world, but third set of levels...you know.  The second boss took me a minute to figure out, but so far, nothing too difficult, unless you try those bonus levels, which are more like challenge levels at times.

cool game.

Like all game now a days this game looks like a joke. I just don’t see how you can have any kind of fun playing a game like this. I mean for each obstacle they have a sign in the background telling you what to choose to get past that obstacle. Apparently that is what is considered a puzzle game in this day in age? Something that is just following the instructions and requiring no thought whatsoever on your part.

Seriously this game is for 10 year olds or noobs.

Isn't that only the first few times after you get a new bean? Like a tutorial.

Yup.  They only hold your hand in the beginning to teach you the ropes.  I think its much better then having tutorials pop up on the screen or something similar.  The later levels in this game definitely require a lot of thinking on how to solve the puzzles, especially the challenge levels.

Yeah, you people should let us playtest this stuff. My kid (and me) could have made the developers aware of a lot of little quirks that would have improved the game had they been fixed.

The game is great, but there are a lot off little things that take away a little of the enjoyment of the game. It feels a bit like it was only tested by programmers.

I don't like that you constantly have to press the "get over here" button and listen to the boy scream BLOB!!! over and over.

Granted, repetitive sound bites are a serious pet peeve of mine... listening to Link yell "hyuh! hyuh! hyuh!" incessantly ruined the Zelda series for me.  Words can't describe how mad I was when they retrofitted it to Link to the Past on the DS.   :P
Heh, you have no idea how bad it was when there was only one version of him saying Blob! and having the testers have the volume cranked up on just the other side of the wall from where I am.  Even though the game has been out the door for a while, occasionally people still yell out "Blob!" in the voice of the boy simply because we got so used to hearing it for months.  I was so glad when they finally got multiple versions of his call in the game.
