What Happened to Mameworld.net?
« on: March 03, 2009, 04:48:59 am »
Have any of you all noticed that Mameworld.net is gone?

What happened to the site?  Do you know if it will be back?

My MAME machine car stereo amp install guide is hosted on
www.mameworld.net/massive and it has been there for long time.

If Mameworld doesnt come back, It will surely be missed..  :'(

Cyberflexx ,  Just Change the ".net" to ".info" in the link to the pages you want to see.

I'm not fixing anything.  There's tons of links to my site, and now they're all dead.  Mameworld seems hell bent on migrating to .info which means (as far as I know) all of the links to my site are now defunct.

Watch for a new development soon, with what I hope will be a better, more permanent solution.   ;D

It was a good run with mameworld, and the guys were really great, but every year the registration would lapse because honestly I think the guys who started it have very little to do with it any more.

Stay tuned!

Try this  link  http://www.mameworld.info/massive/homepage/homepage.html  .

Problem is, even all my internal links are directed at .net pages, so you have trouble doing any migrating unless you have altered your hosts file.

I can't even get in to update it, as twisty ignored my requests for access.  So, sorry guys.  :dunno

I sent him a gentle reminder.  I'm sure it was just overlooked.  I made sure to get the PC2JAMMA site migrated, and there were a bunch of links pointing to .net.  Now, now matter where it's moved to the links will work.

The original guys do indeed still control it.

Hell bent on a move to .info? We had no choice, ztnet are the guys who have control of the domain, we do not have the login details, they are the guys who let us down, and they are uncontactable completely, so we HAD to move.

The main webpage is now at www.mameworld.info.

I have manged to get mameworld.net temporarily redirected to .info and am going through a change of ownership battle to gain our domain from ztnet.

Twisty emailed you all the details, but your email account has him blocked out.

Hey Roc!

You must admit, your interest (and especially KC!) in mameworld has likely gone way down over the years. Well or at least your participation.  I mean it went from almost hourly updates on the main page to maybe a couple a month, and twisty seems to run the place (just my perception). Don't get me wrong, mameworld has been up longer than the arcade heyday lasted, and it's normal to lose interest over time, in anything.

I might also have been a bit harsh in my wording "hell bent".  I know it's ztnet, but you must admit it was a yearly occurrence (not nearly as bad as this year), and you really should have somehow gotten is figured out by now.  Jeez, when i re-read that last bit, it sounds harsh... not really intended that way, after all it's all just a hobby.  ;D

So the auto-redirect from the old .net links to new .info may just be temporary?  :sigh: I guess I'd better go back to manually fixing links.  And yes, I know it's not your fault!   At the very least, it's good to know you're still alive and kicking.

Yeah, Peale said that too, but not sure why, I don't have any problem with any .gmail accounts, and he didn't show up in any spam or trash folders...but not a biggie, Peale forwarded things to me.

Zakk,

thanks for fixing your site.  You are hosting my car amp install guide. :)  Do you know if anyone has actually used that guide, except me?

I've had a couple of e-mails on it over the years, but never anyone saying "I did it!"  ;D

I think Roc fixed the links with a redirect.  I was only through about 4 pages (out of 20 or so) when it all started working again.  That's why I want to know if the redirect is permanent.  Otherwise half the site will go dead again until I manually change every link!

Why don't you change the links so it doesn't matter where they're hosted?

What I'm saying is don't hardcode them, make them variable.  If you have to move them anyway, you may as well do this.

You can also do a search and replace, that'll save a lot of time.
