Mame 32 Controls
« on: March 01, 2009, 09:26:17 pm »
Is there a way to change the default controls for mame 32? I want to build a Mame Arcade, and plan to make the controls by soldering the buttons/joystick to a keyboard, and want to set the default controls before soldering.  I'm sure someone knows, so far this has been an incredible resource.

Thanks in advance.

Why do a keyboard hack (which is the crappy OLD solution) when there are so many awesome solutions available now?

www.ultimarc.com - Ipac / Minipac

www.groovygamegear.com - KeyWiz

Are you talking about editing mameUI/mame32's game selection user interface keys, or the ingame controls?

I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but in MAMEUI, did you try Options---->Default Game Options----->Controller Mapping tab?

This is build your own arcade controlls.
but I warn you the keyboard hack is the worst of all.
(been there done that)
If you are determaned to build your own then try a game pad hack.
but I must tell you , if you do a game pad hack you might have spent just as much as if you bought a keywiz or Minipac
unless you are like me and have many pads just sitting around
www.ultimarc.com  and
www.groovygamegear.com
are top notch people here

Default in game controls.

Just like mame:  Start any game, press tab (or whatever you have mapped to "Config menu"), select ("UI Select" usually enter) the player or UI controls depending which you want to change, select the game's input you want to change, press the key/button you want to use, wait untill mame registers the change, repeat.  (MameFAQ)

Or you can make a ctrlr file if you want.  I love these things, but most people make do with editing the default cfg file as described above.

Or, better yet, read the Mame help file. Help file? Yeah, you know, those things that are about programs.
