Sega System16/18 dedicated uprights?
« on: February 23, 2009, 03:29:06 pm »
Did Sega ever build wooden dedicated uprights for Sega 16/18 system games? (ie Golden Axe, Altered Beast, Shinobi etc) I can only find historical reference to their japanese cabinets. Were these games only sold as kits in north america?

Thanks!

Edit: I remember seeing often this cab specifically but I have no documentation if it was dedicated for Sega or not.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

For the three games you mentioned, I looked up their flyers and all I could find were kits. No dedicated cabs were mentioned or shown.

That's a Williams cabinet, which was originally most likely a Robotron 2084. I just converted one to a Dedicated Bubble Bobble.

Ahh nice catch mrclean. I really like that Robotron design. I remember playing shinobi, altered beast and even shadow dancer on that same style cabinet at different arcades. I wish i could find one to measure and copy, a 19" like that would be pretty cheap to replicate with used parts.

After seeing this it makes me wonder, how many of the early 80s cabs which seem so abundant got recycled 2 dozen times into the mid 90s?

The width of the cab is 26'', depth is 28.5'' height is 70''. At least thats what my crappy measuring skills told me here is my just about finished bubble bobble in a williams cab:

LOL! That page is blasphemous!! Atrocious acts of defoliation to wonderful cabs  :(  The big surprise to me was right at the top. I used to see the After Burner conversions ALL THE TIME! I thought it was like a really bad dynamo design or something. No wonder the control panel was at like 45 degrees!
