can this monitor be fixed?

here is the deal. I bought a monitor from someone on ebay and it was sold as new. however it came pretty much broken. like the front panel came off and none of the buttons actually work. like the stuff to change screen size and brightness. the wires were ripped but I tried connecting them back together but it doesnt seem to work. screen is fairly busted too. psychically it looks fine but when I turn it on there are 4 discolored circles on the screen. now is there a way to fix all this?? also I left the monitor on for a while and there was a "plastic/paint burn" smell or something. maybe because its brand new? I can take some pictures of the inside. everything looks fine inside no visiable sign of anything broken. attached pix. I am trying to get this guy to refund my money..Id hate to deal with paypal dispuite

i reckon that has been dropped pretty bad mate,i could be wrong but at the very least you have a weird degauss problem---more likely though the shadow mask has become detached

i reckon a full refund is needed here and an insurance claim by the seller against the shipping company that dropped this from quite a height i must add

well if I understand correctly the disgaussing coil still works. I hear the "noise" when I turn on the monitor. but yeah someone probably dropped it from like building or smashed the screen with a hammer or something. looks like I am pretty much effed here and have to deal with paypal dispuite if you I dont get from the seller soon. I am giving him till monday because maybe he doesnt read emails on weekend.

That's what I thought too. Game over for that tube. How was the packaging ? People tend to think that shipping companies don't toss boxes around....

packaging was ok but no real protection for the tube itself. like no bubbles in the front of the screen. only bottom and top. I dunno HOW they managed to break the metal casing though. the back panel came off and was bent. its like someone took out the monitor from the box just to break it or something. packing didnt even say "fragile" or wtf is in the box. I recently bought a 50" plasma and it came in brand new perfect condition. guess it depends on who is handing my monitor........


maybe the seller shipped it like that. there wouldnt be random F-ups like this if people were little more honest about their business. who knows I am taking random shots in the dark. guess I am semi screwed here because even if paypal handles my claim..they can only refund 200 from what i hear and I paid 300 for everything.

for what it is worth , SNAAKE.  over the years, i ve had "oops" ( ups ) break a couple of dud return crt's .

each time the idiots attempted to calim insufficient packaging.
 they were then reminded the crt was first shipped TO us in the same box and intact ....
so, why couldn't they return it in the same condition ?     

answer is the idiots at the local hub...

You yourself should be able to make a claim with the shipper, I'd think. But if you can easily - and quickly, don't let them dick around - get the seller to do that for you, then do it. Don't even ---fudgesicle--- with it anymore. Put all your energy into replacing it without expense.

nope I couldnt. fedex cant do the claim unless the seller sends them a letter of some sort saying saying fedex can deal with the buyer. this is BS. this guy is clearly ripping me off. he picks up the phone then hangs up like its nothing. I am starting to think he shipped the monitor like this. I had fedex ship it back to me. I guess I will use this as a "smaller" monitor. change screen size through software(mainly emulators for xbox)


another question, could I replace just the tube? chassis looks new but I have no idea how all this work. I dont plan on doing it myself(AND DIE!!) but if I had someone that know what he is doing.

"crt change 101 "

obviously, stay with the same size/type crt.

"junk" tv's on trash day can be a source of reasonably priced replacements 

once a suitable donor has been located , be sure to mark the position of the convergence/purity rings
they will be needed later- DO NOT DISTURB RINGS .  not a bad idea to also mark the yoke position . it may vary when the game yoke is installed. but, good for reference .
after discharging the crt , one can proceed with crt removal. be careful and take your time !
disconnect anode and yoke connections on dud crt / remove "neck board"
u may need to swap deguassing coils . usually , the game original can be easily kept .
set monitor face down on a towel to remove crt retaining bolts .
same proceedure for donor crt - if from a tv , it will need to be lifted out of the set  ( easier with a partner on 25" + )
once donor crt is in place in game frame , install yoke as close to the orig mark as feasable .
the donor's conv/purity rings need to be in the EXACT original position .
once everything is reconnected and triple checked , time for a test fire .
if all went well, only minor yoke position adjustments will be needed.
check purity , convergence . if good , then adjust focus, white balance/color drive, etc...
a good mirror is handy  !
