Kids, game rooms
« on: February 15, 2009, 01:10:01 pm »
To those of you with game rooms & children:  Do your kids actually care about pinball machines & arcades?

I grew up without a game room, always wanted a big screen, pinball & etc as a kid........swore when I grew up these things would make it into my house (ok so I wanted a trap door & fireman's pole too).

Now that I've managed to build a game room my GF says when we have kids they prob wont care for my toys & will end up doing something horrible like play sports....................Nooooooooooooooooooooooo, how could they?

My kids love playing in the gameroom, love playing the Williams collection on the Wii and also love sports.

Your kids will love the stuff that you love doing with them.

Um....heheheheh....I wouldn't worry. They'll be how they'll be. If the arcade isn't primarily for you, then I think there's no reason to have it.

Yeah Ummon the room is def for me, I just wanted to know how many kids actually care about these things now days.

I dont plan on having kids for another 3 years but when I do they better learn how to play foosball ASAP.

As for the fireman's pole....................It wasnt until I turned 12 I realized what else it would be good for "Gentleman put your hands together for cinnamon on the side stage, be sure to tip your wait staff, they are working hard tonight (daft punk song in background)".

That is the case, but it's not relevant. My point was that you can hope for things for you children, but placing expectations of this sort on them, as well as making your own emotional well-being dependent on them, isn't advised.

I like dens.  Pool tables the arcade cab in the corner, the BIG TV.  Lazy Boy furniture.

Beer on Tap, and a forgiving wife.

We had Dens growing up and it was a focal point for everyone except Dad.  Dad liked smoking his tobacco pipe in the backyard, working on the house.  Yet he did visit to watch the Love Boat or Threes Company when they came on.

Get a Den and make it whatever you want it to be.  8)

I have a gameroom now, and I love sharing it with people. I get more entertainment from watching others enjoy the games than playing them myself.

Arcades are meant to be full of people! Being alone in a real arcade back in the day would have sucked.

What size do you prefer?

Ah, I love tournament-size tables. Also like arcades that don't have a lot of people in them, cos then I can hear the game I'm playing, don't have to wait (or wait long) to play something else, and I'm not bumping into people walking through the place.

Kids and Metal Slug seem to go together like non-diseased peanut butter and jelly. We have some friends from Wisconsin that come down twice a year and they have a ~5 and 10 year old. They would stay in the basement playing Metal Slug X for hours, just beating it over and over again. I finally had to just shut down the arcade wall a few times to get them to eat dinner or go to bed. I checked the book keeping and there were about 130 replays per player for the weekend. I should have had the coin mechs in that machine...

Anyway man you wouldnt like my 9ft'r very much.............which by the way is still in a million parts in the garage right now :'(.

I fear my children will use markers on my pinball machines or something..........perhaps they shouldn't know about the basement until they are 12?
