Connecting to X-Box Live?
« on: February 12, 2009, 09:56:29 am »
I just got a 360 yesterday, and was under the impression it had everything I needed to connect to X-Box Live . . well it does, if your PC is 5 feet from the console.

I looked it up and Microsoft says I need some kind of a Plug-in Ethernet extender thing to hook up a 360 if my internet is in another room?? Fine, but they cost about 75 dollars.

Couldn't I just buy a 100ft ethernet cable and wire it from one room to the other?

Your other option is to buy a wireless gaming bridge that will hook into the ethernet port of the Xbox, such as - http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=USR5430&cat=NET

If you go that route though, make sure you get one that you can return, in case you have problems with setting it up.  I had a linksys one that worked well, until I got the official adapter for Xmas.

Option #3, which is what I did is to buy a DD-wrt flashable wireless router. With the firmware upgrade, you can turn it into a wireless bridge, and go back to using it as a router, if need be.

I got the linksys wrt54G for $40, then flashed it. Works great.
