good SNES games that aren't too pricey?
« on: February 01, 2009, 03:10:26 am »

i fixed a workmates SNES on saturday, merely by giving her my spare N64 AV lead. she had the RF thingo and that was playing up. better off without it. those things suck. anyway, because she's cute, i thought i might pick up a game or two for her machine. she has

mario all stars
donkey kong country 2 and 3
earthworm jim
mario kart

im going to get streetfighter II (alpha would be great, but pretty rare and pricey)

any thoughts? emphasis on two player games...

Search no more. Goof Troop is the one you need.

I haven't followed prices all that much, but maybe take a look at these?

Secret of Mana (This is single player for a short time at the beginning)
Bomberman
Micro Machines (Research this one, I don't remember if this was the suck version)
Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Lost Vikings
Clay Fighters
Pocky and Rocky

If you want a mindless side scroller, Sunset Riders. Excellent game to just sit and space out. No real thought needed but still fun.
Oh and the Williams arcade classics cart w/ Joust, Defender, Stargate and a couple others is really nice. Only about $5 or $6 too.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors

+1!! I had forgotten about that one!

cool. only bomberman seems to be cheap on the ol ebay though. so maybe ill have to get out of the house and check out some shops! although of course, the shops tend to know what to price things at...

ive picked up street fighter 2 for a couple of quid. thats a start. shes younger than me, so she might kick my arse in that...

Just go to the oldest, crapiest pawn shop you can find. What I have found, over here at least, is that they are usually run by an older generation (hence the oldest) that don't pay attention to the internet. I've been to pawnshops with excellent condition NES carts with instructions for a $1 a piece with good games like the mario series, Zelda series, Metroid, etc. They were still there because the shop itself looked a little scary so people wouldn't patronize that particular establishment. All the new, nice looking shops usually sell on ebay at the same time, so they know what stuff is worth.

SF2-Get the turbo/hyper fighting edition, or whatever it's called.

Mortal Kombat 2

Mario Kart

Contra III

TMNT 4

Secret of Mana is a good RPG to share

Technically, FFIII (VI in Japan) can be 2 player

Rampart, just for the 2 player

Super Mario World

Hint: If the place smells like ass, you're in the right place.

There's a pretty good vacuum repair shop that (still not sure how he does this) does pretty good business on the side as a pawn shop of sorts. That place smells rank. A smell that's a combination of old man's ass, fast food gone South, stale cigarette smoke and a hint of what I can only describe as the 70's.

at first glance perhaps, but actually only a few rooms in the entire game hide nothing.

well, SF II just arrived. tested it out after giving the contacts a really good clean, they were pretty grotty. i tested it as Ryu, guess who was my opponent, Blanka?  ;D

damn, i was never great at the fighting games, but it looks like its pretty hard to get a 'haidukken' going with a joypad. i only managed it once, while Blanka gnawed my head off most of the time...

how DO you get a 'haidukken' on an SNES anyway?

down, diagonal-down (toward opponent), right/left (toward opponent).  Simultaneously with the last step there, you press a punch button.

Lost Vikings was a very good suggestion for a two-player game.  It's all cooperative teamwork stuff.  TONS of fun to play with a partner.

As for single-player games, check out Out of This World.  It is brilliant, and the graphics/artwork are amazing.  It's all rotoscoped.

Please don't buy Alpha 2/Zero 2 on SNES its absolute garbage.  Get Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting or Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers.

I love Alpha 2 but the SNES version is an abomination :(

Super Mario World
Secret of Mana
Lufia II
Super Baja Off Road
Baseball Simulator 1000
Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Super Mario RPG
Street Fighter 2
Secret of Evermore
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest
Zelda

Thought I'm not sure the price on some of those....
if price weren't a problem then the Final Fantasy Series and Chrono Trigger come into play

I've always loved Uniracers.  You race around on a unicycle and perform fancy air maneuvers.  Simple & awesome.

There's the tetris+ dr mario cart, Weaponlord is a favorite, Killer instinct, yoshi's cookie, Megaman soccer(might not be so cheap), knights of the round, final fight 3(awesome wrapped in a cart), X-men(can't remember the whole name, but it was alot like marvel super heroes for snes), and a favorite of all time, megaman X.
Newbie in working on cabs, expert in playing, breaking, moving slowly, and overall failing at them too.
