MameWah config woes...
« on: June 24, 2003, 06:30:52 pm »
Greets,
I've been trying various front ends on my cabinet and have yet to find one that I could get to work with all of my toys :-).  I was able to get mamewah v90 (i beleive) to work with all but daphne..so I tried a few others...but came back to mamewah.

So i've got the latest version (95b) and ran into two problems...first off my mame roms come up with short file names (i'm sure its an easy fix that i overlooked) and secondly trying to get daphne (laserdisc emu) to run properly with mamewah.  Honestly I'm running out of ideas, any help would be highly appreciated.

here's my cab sys specs:
athlon 950MHz
650ram
win2k pro
NVidea G-force 2 MX
Ipac

thanx in advance,
-jeff-

I can help with the short file names.

Choose "Emulation Settings" then "Execution Settings" and you'll see a "use long file names" option. After you set it to "yes" refresh your list and they'll be there.

Thanx for the quick reply, but I've already tried that...to no avail...i'm thinking it may have something to do with the other 3 files listed @ the list config screen...ie *.dat, *.nms, catver....

any takers?

on a side note with the similar problem...does any one know where i could score gens FE (to take permit esc key to exit gens)? I really don't want to mess around with girder :-).

thanx again guys/gals

Well I'm happy to say I solved my little file problem...and the solution came with the obligitory "DOH!"...apparently when I updated to the latest version I was unzipping just the txt files not the Exe's... :-).  Now it works like a charm...tomorrow I'll tackle those wrappers and Daphne :)

If you could post in here how you end up getting Daphne to work I'd appreciate it.
I haven't tried tackling Daphne yet on my cab.  Right now I just run daphne loader via a .bat file through mamewah.  Then I have to pick each game from there.
I'd like to fully integrate it, though.

Well, I got that wrapper...if i run cmd-launch4.exe lair from the command line it loads up beautifully, however when the same code is sent via mamewah two things happen:

1) its placed in all CAPITALS (not a big deal)

2) Daphne rejects it saying all its recieving is daphne lair

now the big question is why?

Well at the risk of not preparing for my presentation tomorrow I've opted to try and resolve my daphne problem...As of yet I havn't been able to run it the way its "supposed" to via the wrapper.  But came across a post @ the ultimarc site.  Basically its a quick and dirty solution...

use *.bat files...I know they aren't very elegant, but since I'm only running daphne for Space Ace and Dragon's Lair...its not that big of a deal.

I edited the daphne.dat file from ClrMamePro website to only list each game...Essentially each game is an emulator.  but its still much easier then using the daphneLoader in the Cab.

so until someone wiser then I comes along and solves this, i'll do it the quick and dirty way :-).

Sorry I haven't put as much time looking into Daphne as I'd hoped...for now BAT files are probably the best solution...

Can you elaborate some on exactly how you did this?  I'd like to do the exact same thing.  I only want Space Ace and Dragon's Lair running, too.
I have no problem making bat files, but don't know that much about Daphne.  Using daphneloader kept me from having to know too much.  I like your solution much better though.

OK, I'll see if I can do a good job at this.

First off on daphne hit the configure button and click on Advanced...on there you'll see an option for display commands before launching...just select how you'd normally load it (or would like to have it configured...ie Fullscreen/Freeplay etc).  Then launch the game...it will show a box with the command line that's being run...use that as ur basis for the bat file.

this would be done for each game u would want to do....here's space ace Bat for refrence:

E:\daphne\daphne.exe ace vldp -framefile "E:\daphne\ace.txt" -fullscreen -bank 0 00000000 -bank 1 00010001

Then what you can do is simply use this bat file in mamewah as the EXE file...ie use ace.bat instead of daphne.exe to launch the emulator.  Here's the cfg file of space ace for mamewah:

EMU3.cfg

;EMULATOR OPTIONS

and while I'm at it here's the DAT file for it as well :

clrmamepro (
   name Daphne
   description "Daphne v0.99.5a"
   category "Laserdisk Emulator"
   version 20021104
author "Ben Jos Walbeehm - Team Logiqx, http://www.logiqx.com/"
   forcemerging split

game (
   name ace
description "Space Ace (US revision A3)"
   year 1983
   manufacturer "Magicom / Cinematronics"
   rom ( name sa_a3_u1.bin size 8192 crc 427522d0 )
   rom ( name sa_a3_u2.bin size 8192 crc 18d0262d )

   rom ( name sa_a3_u4.bin size 8192 crc 57db2a79 )
   rom ( name sa_a3_u5.bin size 8192 crc 85cbcdc4 )
)

as far as the configuration of mamewah here's how mine is set up:

Emulator execution settings
Emulator Executable: e:\daphne\ace.bat
Send ROM Path:NO
Send ROM Extension:NO
Use Long File Names:Yes
Show Dos Box:NO

Emulator List Generation Settings
DAT File Name: e:\frontend\mamewah\files\ace.dat
ROM Path: E:\daphne\roms
Rom Extension: ZIP
List Generation Method: DAT file only

Emulator Misc Settings
artwork #1 image Path: E:\daphne\images

let's see that should allow you to run space ace w/o the loader expressly from mamewah...be sure to be running the most current version of mamewah .951b

then just do the same for dragon's lair

just for s#%(s and giggles here's the Dat file for dragons lair too:

clrmamepro (
   name Daphne
   description "Daphne v0.99.5a"
   category "Laserdisk Emulator"
   version 20021104
author "Ben Jos Walbeehm - Team Logiqx, http://www.logiqx.com/"
   forcemerging split

)

game (
   name lair
description "Dragon's Lair (US revision F2)"
   year 1983
   manufacturer "Starcom / Cinematronics"
   rom ( name dl_f2_u1.bin size 8192 crc f5ea3b9d )
   rom ( name dl_f2_u2.bin size 8192 crc dcc1dff2 )
   rom ( name dl_f2_u3.bin size 8192 crc ab514e5b )
   rom ( name dl_f2_u4.bin size 8192 crc f5ec23d2 )
)

just remember that both dragon's lair and space ace would be treated as a different emulator...not a big deal...ie set up one..then choose to make a new emulator for the next one

i hope this clears it all up...again if anyone found a more elegant solution feel free to let us know :)

take care

tenex2mg ,

Thanks for all the information.  I'm still configuring Mamewah and haven't gotten to Daphne yet.

Your information is quite detailed.  I was wondering if you had tried to run Daphne as it's own emulator with DL and Space Ace as the 2 roms.

I haven't tried this yet but am going to try (under Win98se) to use command.com or "call" as the emulator.

This would issue a command of:  call lair.bat or command.com /lair.bat  or whatever syntax is needed.  I don't use DOS too much anymore :P

I was just thinking it would be nice to have just one emulator for the laser games.

Well to be honest my method works out pretty well, you've got like 20 someodd emulator spaces on the latest Mamewah...so my way you've got 15 instead of 16 left :-).

As far as running daphne on its own...it wasn't too co-opertive...kept erroring out and what not.

any who such is life..
