ive been diligently going to the gym the last 6 months or so. about the only annoyance is that the radio is normally tuned in to one of those crap commercial stations. sometimes im the only one there so i tune it in to a station called ZZZ (true!) which is a community station ive just discovered recently. their playlist goes something like this: a 1930s bluegrass tune, PJ Harvey, Iggy Pop and the Stooges, Nick Cave, Powderfinger, Lilly Allen, Badly Drawn Boy, Dresden Dolls etc. in other words, some variety.

the commercial station playlist is something like this: teen pop by a chick, teen pop by a dude, teen pop by a boy group etc. and that stupid, stupid song about a hollerback girl.

what on earth is a 'hollerback'?

1) The subordinates in a group. When there is a group of people that hang together a lot and one of those members is very dominating and controlling, other less forceful members   just tag along, do and think what they are told. Derived from high school cheerleading. The captain hollers something and all the other cheerleaders holler it back.

2) Someone who allows people to treat him/her like a doormat and walk all over him/her.

3) Someone who is inferior, low class, has to "answer back" to people above them.

No Doubt Tragic Kingdom is an AWESOME album. Everything after that was 'okay' or just plain crap. It just goes to show that mainstream success kills great acts. If you have any further doubt of that, just take a look at Metallica.

it may well have come out six years ago, but that doesnt preclude crappy commercial stations from playing it. i have heard it before, its just that somehow it got me thinking 'well, WTF is a hollerback anyway? (and what does it have to do bananayanas?)'.

six years ago i had my own courier business and i listened to the radio station that appealed the most to me. they didnt play any gwen stefani after 'im just a girl' as far as i can remember. that station had taste
