Saturn CD door switch
« on: January 27, 2009, 09:25:45 pm »
Hi all,

I just found my old Saturn after going through some old boxes in the garage.  Found I still had Virtua Cop2 and a couple of guns!  :applaud:
It appears as though the CD door switch is dodgy as it doesn't always recognise that the door is shut and keeps the laser idle.  A little bit of fiddling with the switch and it usually comes good.
Does anyone know if these switches are available to buy anywhere?
Alternatively, I could always just bridge the switch out and make sure that the system is turned off before removing the disc.  Any problems with doing this?

Cheers.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

All I did was wrap electrical tape around my switch to force it to always be considered closed. Helps with the swap trick.

Thanks for the feedback.
Upon further tinkering, the switch itself seems to be flaky, in that if I manually hold it closed it does not always detect so I am suspecting a dry joint on the PCB.  Will pull her apart further tonight and investigate.

Cheers.

OK, so I finally got some time to look at the Saturn this weekend.  Switch seems fine, continuity is good, re-flowed the switch connections to the PCB and she still is flaky.
Any thing else anyone can recommend I take a look at?  Sometimes it recognises the disc is there, other times it wont.  Runs fine if it detects the disc

Cheers.
