To everyone with a mame machine

What the heck!

Seriously, I have been looking into setting one up, but have found no information in any search on how to do it.
All I can find is stuff like, down load the latest version.
Really now is there any kind of resource out there that shows a person how to do the software part of this.

Also I've around 100ish original pcb's moslty neo-geo carts that I would like to emulate so I don't have to keep swapping them out, so what tool are you using to extract the information from them to but into your mame unit?  Short of pealing off rom chips I don't guess I understand.\
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Well, I thank you for the help. Though I still am in the same position as before more or less. I got the program to start up by downloading that version but I can not seem to do much with it.

The key for you is that someone has already downloaded the information from the pcb's for you, they are called roms. The rules state that rom discussion is not allowed so you will have to do some more research on them but in order to play anything you have to have roms and their respective paths configured in mame.

Well, I thank you for the help. Though I still am in the same position as before more or less. I got the program to start up by downloading that version but I can not seem to do much with it. 

i would suggest getting mameUI  it will be easier to set up for a new user. it has a frontend built in. a frontend is a program that makes running mame more manageable. (mameUI or mame32 as it was called before). then look for a tutorial on mameUI and even mame32 (the 32 is not referring to 32bit pc so thats why they have changed the name to ui to avoid confusion)
i just read and read and read and tinkered and got mame32 to work and now have moved on and im sure you can get there.

BTW i dont think its legal to play roms in mame even if you own the boards, but i think its ok to use it for repair/diagnosis of those boards

Well I thank you all for the help. I think the problem may be more with my computer than anything.  I'll do some more reading and play around for a while.  I think you've all pointed me in the right direction to get it worked out with some time.

Double click is a lame setting?  I use double click and always will... I cannot get use to the single click (aka. noob mode) icons on my 7 year old sons computer.

To the original poster...  read, read, read, read.  If you come across any terms or anything remember search and google are your friends.  Don't ask in forums as to where to get roms.  That is a general rule of emulation and most forums will not allow it.

I think I'm with Dazz on this.  Single-click settings led to a lot of accidentally launching (I tend to speed around with the mouse).  Double-clicking, to me, is a nice little safety measure (not that anything would be hurt...), kind of like having to hold down a power button to exit, etc.    But to each his own on this.
