Mamewah organizing the "Favorites" list
« on: January 20, 2009, 07:47:57 pm »
I have a big Favorites list in mamewah (mame-1.ini) but there all jumbled. Is there a way I can organize them by alphabetical? I tried using the game list options and accidentally added all of the roms to that list. Thanks,
Kick Ass!

Strange, when I add games to a favorites list they get put in alphabetic order. You could make another list by coping mame-1 and rename it mame-2.ini . Also NOP makes a program that is really easy to sort your roms called rom lister that can save out to a mamewah ini file.

The Favourites (most player / longest played) lists order the games with the most popular at the top.

If you want to list alphabetically, change the list_type to 'normal' in your list-specific ini. Note that if you do this games will not be automatically added though.

Mame-1.ini is set to normal but it still shows them jumbled. Could it be that I have the list generation method in mame.ini set to romfolder vs list? I've never got the auto generating list of "favorite" games to work, I know its supposed to add the most played games, but I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. Wait..Does it need to be labled "Favourites" in the ini?
Thanks minwah, you rule!

It's been awhile since I've been on the threads, 6 month military deployment, and I noticed something called hyperspin....Have you guys messed with it at all? I'm still really happy with mamewah, I have it shelled out in xp and runs like a champ on my older *free* pc.

List generation method does not matter. With the exception of 'favourites' lists, games are always sorted into alphabetical order.

Have you created this list (mame-1) by using the 'Add game' option in the menu?

No the name of it doesn't matter, just the list_type. I can't think of anything else that you would need to set at the moment.

I haven't tried it but I'm sure many others here have!

On behalf of the HyperSpin group, I would like for you to try out HyperSpin and see if it is for you or if your PC can run it.  Unlike other front ends HyperSpin has much higher system requirements to run at full speed and full eye candy.

Just give it a try and if you have any questions or need assistance just ask on our forums at www.hyperspin-fe.com.

Weird....Everything was in order and after I restarted it twice everything is fine with the fav lists...mmm Not sure what to think. Oh well, its working nicely. One more thing, when I switch my mame theme it switches my namco emulator theme aswell to the default. Any thoughts?

- I also downloaded the hyperspin and its pretty cool. If I wasn't such a cheap ass I might buy a faster computer. I have an AMD 1.7 w/ 3 gigs Ram and 512 vid card. It seems pretty demanding on the CPU and not sure why they went with their own video format for game previews, because I would have to re-download all of them again..anyways MINWAH your program still remain top dog to all of us stubborn cheap-asses! Plus, your always there to lend a hand. Cheers! ;D

Yeah, HS would probably chug on the 1.7, but it should enjoy the 3GB of ram.  Video card shouldn't matter.  The FLV video format is being used because you can't animate, stretch, rotate or add additional effects to normal .avi files.  .FLV files are a much smaller file size and quality can be better due to the smaller file size than .avi files.  Circo, from Emumovies, has been on board and is working to convert all of his sets to the .FLV format.  I think we will eventually start seeing more and more front end authors adding .FLV support for videos as it doesn't require codecs and the smaller file sizes.

BUT, for your system I don't think you would get the full HyperSpin effect without a boost to the CPU.  I honestly loved Mamewah when I was using it.  I had to stop using it as it wasn't too child friendly at the time.  But MinWah does do some top notch support for it as you stated.

Don't get me wrong Dazz, you guys did a great job on the eye candy of this front end, and true it worked, but it "chugs" along as you said. If I got the full experience it might sway me to switch but right now im ok with a lower end system untill I get that itch again to spend the g's.
I'm impressed with my 3 year old son though, he seemed to figure out mamewah pretty well. He just scrolls down untill he see's the video of the game he wants. He loves world class bowling and always kicks my a@@. What a punk. :D

OK make sure you have the same themes available for each emulator. If the 'current' theme is not available for any selected platform then it will go to the default.

Just curious, what is the recommended minimum CPU speed for all the bells and whistles?
