wondering if anyone knows a place that sells usb passthrough plates? SOLVED!!

I am looking for some type of usb mounting plate passthrough type deal

Something that would look like this with female ports on the face of it facing outwards and it dont matter if the inner is male or female socketed.



Could have a single port or dual port like pictured 2 or 4 screw mounting holes in the plate itself.

Also if anyone knows of a type that is a single port and mounts in a round hole like a pushbutton that would be even better yet.

looking for type-A USB my goal is to take usb cable extension's from the motherboard and connect them to the mouning plate with the usb passthough's so I can plug some lcd topguns right into the mounting plate so I dont have to worry about the motherboard or anything else getting damaged in case somebody trips or pulls the cable to far.

yeah I check ebay and did a google image search with various type names and I still did not see anything close to what I am after.

also would preffer a USA seller if possible so I dont have to wait longer for the shipping.

te parts shape in the link is perfect but I need it to be type-A on both sides I had checked that site already and they odnt offer type-A on both side they only go from A to B like a converter.

those are the same as the link they go from type A to type B I dont need or want a converter I need either a female on the outside with a male on the inside both ends in matching type A on both ends or a female on the outside and female on the inside but same thing both ends have to be type A

if you look at the ends of them pictures you will see there not the same port size on each of their ends there a totally different shape I just want to keep it simple.

yeah when it comes to custom jobs I am very picky I could get 2 seperate B to A converters for them but that is just another extra expense that is not wanted or needed but may be my only option as the mounting method of them type in the links are perfect.

kinda wired they only sell the gender changers instead of just regular plain ol passthoughs

I'll need to double check, but I believe this is part of the USB specification. You're going to have a tough time finding male-male or fem-fem types because there's not supposed to be any. The USB is explicit in the specifications that you have a master/slave (I know not PC) relationship between devices. In fact, I recall that a male to male A type cable is explicitly forbidden in the specifications because someone might think to connect two PC's together and do some nasty damage. Imagine my suprise when I ordered a programmer (from India, go figure) and it came with such a cable. I cut the cable and soldered a proper B connector on the programmer.

There's someone who makes a really nice USB plug made to go into audio racks. I'll see if I can find it, it's been mentioned a few times on this forum. It looks very nice.

right I am not lookng to go male/male.

I just need the outside to be female type A and the inner male or female type A

kinda like taking a regular type A usb extension cable and cutting the male/female ends off and combining them.

I just need the type A female to male wich should be common but I would still need to use the converters for the above to get them back down to the common A type if I were to use them.

I cant believe this part is not the most common out of all of them as it was pretty much the starting standard for USB when it came out lol.

maybe I should start making them

worst case I will cut the usb ends off the usb extension cables and the lcd topguns and just wire them into whatever type of passthough I can find that has enough to handle the few usb wires.

I will just use these as it should be cheaper then buying or hacking new cables

I ended up ordering 2 black one's from the USA link.

  It was $12.49 to ship the two wich was a kick in the nuts for them little things but I did get a free 330 page catalog out of the deal

Oh right, sorry. I misunderstood. I know the male/male cords are explicitly forbidden. But I'm not sure if the male/female extensions and the female/female versions are. I know none of my male/female A cables have their USB "certification" so I assume the female/female versions are as well. You know, That's bothering me, I better double check my facts there. Off to Google.

Do you have the link to the specific model you got? I am going to need the same thing soon, but that website is like trying to find a specific grain of sand on a beach.

I almost ordered some extra's in case anyone else needed some.

the part price is so so but the extra $12.49 for shipping something that small is kinda silly and if I ordered extra's it would have been like a dollar to ship by me instead
