Video snaps and Blue Layout
« on: January 13, 2009, 01:06:00 am »
I have an EmuMovies set of vids that play on my arcade. But when I link then they don't seem to work. I'm assuming it's because I used the Blue Layout and it's just for stills. Can I edit to show videos? Also, I'd like for it to show the still and then the video after a few seconds. Thanks

you will need to edit blue layout with malalayout and change the snap area to video area.
I dont think you will get the snap to show and th.en the video but I could be wrong

The way I do it is put a video box over the snap box, exact same size.  Then set the video delay for 1s.  Videos always play on top, no matter where they are in the z-order, BTW.

Yea, I noticed that videos always play on top. Is there any way to get the video to play behind an image. The blue layout has round holes for snaps, and now I've got square videos playing over top of it. If there isn't a way, I might have to pick another layout. Also, the videos are smaller than the box and have a black border around them. Would switching for SQ vids to HQ fix fit that? Thanks.

No way to move them down, yet.  I think it talks about that in that particular README (for blue).  Im using the HiQ vids and I dont think theres boxes on mine.  Ill have to check again though.  I usually make my vid and snap boxes square so that horz and vert show relatively equal size.

That's what I figured after I moved that sucker to the bottom of the layer order and got the same thing. I'll switch to another layout I like that has a square spot for screens until I get some time to make my own. Blue would look killer with the vids, the layout maker gets that on the new update.

BTW: DungBeetle, I saw a few of yours and they look great. I might have to snag one of those.

Using the MALALAYOUT program just resize the video area slightly, making it smaller so that the corners no longer overlap the frame.  Very easy to do.

I have bigger vids, too. I'll try that because I want the vids to be bigger if possible.

I switched to a layout with a square for vids and added a video box as mentioned and it worked great. I have snaps linked, too, and they show up for a split second as the vid loads. This just in case anyone was following this for a solution. Thanks all for the help.

Just curious, what layout are you using?

Alien Dashboard. I'm actually a graphic designer, but I'm on a deadline so I don't have time to make my own. There are a lot of great ones out there, tho.

Sorry to dig up this old thread, but I've just converted a new MAME cabinet and the 'blue' layout suits its colour theme perfectly. I'm also wanting to use videos this time, which I have working but have encountered the same issue where they are 'always on top' of other layers, so the transparent 'circular window' of the blue theme doesn't cover up the edges of the video like it should (and like it does with snaps).

Is there any hope that in a future version of Mala, you will be able to put other layers on top of the video? If not, I'll have to consider using another theme (I really don't want to) or living without videos. The option of making videos so small that the whole square fits within the opening of the circle just doesn't look right either.

Alternatively, is anybody willing to have a go at converting the "Blue" layout background images to have a 'square' window with rounded edges, rather than a circle window?

Yes but not for some time.
