I'd like to know more about it too.

Such as, whats the name of the game on the marquee or on the attract screens? (meteor perhaps?)
Any chance you could post a picture?

That control panel is definitely not original... Asteroids used 5 buttons for controls and no joys.

There was a guy not too far from me selling a cocktail Asteroids that had a joystick. It was a 3 way, left and right to turn, and up was for thrust. It was in one of those Japanese style cabs with the adjustable legs.

People, people, please not let's get nuts about this.

I was the one to post about this machine here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=84072.0

The facts: This is a bootleg Asteroids that probably was built in Spain. Of course, the controls are NOT the original one's that were in there, this bootleg has clearly been converted (look at the monitor, that's not original either).
Since when was Asteroids ever a two player game eh, go figure.

Anyway, you're one lucky guy getting this machine since I think you payed WAY too little for it. I was too late.....

Maar in ieder geval van harte welkom op dit forum en in deze geweldige hobby !

If you really want to do a full restore, you will need a working black and white vector monitor. Now, that's not an item you can buy every day overhere.......only when you've sourced this, you could think about doing the restoration.

Apart from that you'll need an Asteroids board. Getting that particular bootleg board will be a VERY long shot, but why not get a real Atari one ? They're reasonably available (I think I know at least one for sale in Germany).

Then the CP would need to be re-built. Fill the holes, drill the correct one's etc. Get a CPO.

My friend Andreas (www.andysarcade.de) from Germany who is a die-hard vector fan did a comparising between the marquees:

Here's Andy's comments:
Re. The AsteroiD, I have attached a picture showing the differences between Asteroids and AsteroiD (this is a picture from my 'collection' of unknown stuff:
- the Atari logo is missing on the latter
- some chnages had been made to the artwork in areas where the 'S' was missing
- the AsteroiD uses real rocks at the top half instead of dots

I've got the info that the cab originated from Spain.

So, this may have been one very interesting bootleg......I hope it will survive.....

I'm very glad you registered here and that this cab will at least survive for now, I really hope you can restore it to it's full glory !

i will look fot the stuff i need, but since in have two pinballs to maintain,
