Help me size a vector file - PLEASE!!!
« on: January 08, 2009, 05:47:08 pm »
Here are the dimensions of my marquee:

This is actual image that I want to use (the white border should line up with the dimensions I've provided):

The vectorized file (from vectormagic.com) can be downloaded HERE in EPS format and HERE in SVG format.

I just need something set up so that when I have it printed by mamemarquees it will be at the correct size.

HUGE thanks to anyone who can do this for me!!!

Try this. Print it out on plain paper yourself at actual size, to make sure it fits correctly.

You should also be able to tell Scott what size to print it, and he will adjust accordingly.

Wow thanks for the help - that was quick.  I can't view the file though because it is an SVG and I don't have any vector programs.  I should have been more specific in that I need a png or jpeg (whichever is crisper) so I can print it... I will send both to Scott though (assuming the SVG is sized exactly the same as whatever jpeg you can post) and he can use whatever he wants to print...

Wait, so do you need me to send you another file? Scott should be able to print the SVG - do you need something else? If I send you a jpeg of the above file, it won't be indicative of the actual file size - you specify an image size and resolution when you convert it to jpeg.

So the SVG file is set to print at a specific size?  I'm going to grab inkscape and print the file and see how it looks.  I'll let you know if I need any more help..  Thanks so much!

I'm not sure if I completely understood what you want. Here I simply stretched the objects in the yellow/orange area. The digits have been stretched, too but if you don't know you don't recognize it :)

Let me know if this is what you need.

A little problem is the white line. It has been vectorized, too and now there's an empty space between the other objects and you'll have to close that gap manually  :-\

I finally downloaded inkscape and printed the file you attached but it came out way too big (great image quality though).  I'm not sure how to get it to print the size that I want.  :/

EDIT: I'm a dope.  I was trying to print the original file!   :dizzy:  Yours seems to print at a good size - I'm at work so I can't tell but I'll know for sure tonight when I get home.  Thank you so much!!!

I need the SVG file sized so all Scott at Mamemarquees will have to do is open it up and print.  The white lines *should* line up with the dimensions I provided and the entire thing should be scaled without distorting the image.

OK, attached is the modified SVG file. I resized it by 102%, which should make it about 1/8" larger on all sides. Let me know if you need any more help. I can also send you an AI (Illustrator) file, but it is too large to attach to this post, even zipped. PM me if you need the Illustrator file and I will send it to you.

*Edit - removed funky attachment. See below for updated file.

Awesome!! Thanks so much. I can't print t out until tomorrow at work but I'm sure it will work.  The last file was probably OK and I'm just being overly cautious.  I'm finally going to place the order tomorrow!

Hmmm... the resizing didn't seem to work (I'm probably not smart enough to make it work though).  There were 2 files in your zip this time (I'm not sure why).  One of them would not load (only 1KB and inside a folder named _MACOSX) and the other printed out much smaller than before.  I'm going to play with it but if it's easy enough could you maybe try and attaching the file again?  Thanks!

OK, trying attachment again. If this doesn't work, PM me and I will send you the file directly.

*Edit: OK, the switch from Inkscape (Windows) to Illustrator (Mac) did something funky to its apparent size. When I modified the last file I did it at home on Illustrator, which is also why there was an additional (invisible) file in the zip. I have replaced the download attached to this post with the windows modified file at 102%. Let me know if this works.

Hey javeryh...

Attached are three files:
dial5fb_100.zip: This is the file at the actual size (100%) as best as I can calculate.
dial5fb_101.zip: Above file scaled to 101%, or adding about 1/8" to the overall length. In other words, this adds about 1/16" to each side.
dial5fb_102.zip: Again increased the above size by 101%, or the original by 102%. So this adds another 1/8" to the overall length.

I figure somewhere in these three files lies your most perfect fit. But if not, let me know and I can tweak as necessary. Good luck.

You RULE.  Thanks so much.  I'll be printing from work today and sizing it tonight (I hope).
