trackball and mame 128
« on: January 06, 2009, 07:24:48 pm »
Hey all,
Well I'm stumped! I have a working trackball but when I get into mame 128 and start up say cabal, I can't get it to work.  Is there a setting somewhere?  I've looked all over.
Please Help, I need to shoot something!

The set structure of CABAL is:

Parent: CABAL      Cabal (World, Joystick version)
Clones:
        CABALA     Cabal (Alpha Trading)
CABALBL    Cabal (bootleg of Joystick version)
CABALUS    Cabal (US set 1, Trackball version)
CABALUS2   Cabal (US set 2, Trackball version)

I'd assume you are trying the "cabal" set, which is a joystick version.  If you did either "cabalus" or "cabalus2" - these should control with trackball/mouse or similar device.  Make sure you have the trackball enabled in your options as well.

Man I was hoping that was the problem and I was an idiot but nope...
Tried the trackball cabals ans centipede and the trackball still doesn't work.  Go to windows and it's fine. :banghead:

Is there a "0" I can change to a "1" anywhere?

OK i'm getting closer.
Looked all around mame's menus and found that the trackball works in the menu system! Looking around player 1 controls and found the track X and Y settings. Track X is blank. Aha! now the problem is, when I hit enter, how to I input something for the trackball?  I tried spinning it but nothing is entered.

Did you enable mouse/trackball support in the mame.ini?

mame -cc to have mame create the mame.ini file.

Then edit mame.ini; the easiest is mouse 1, but you can do trackball_device mouse instead (and dial_device mouse, and even adstick_device mouse, paddle_device mouse, lightgun_device mouse, and positional_device mouse, if you want also).

An old saw - with an old response: get mame32/UI and look through the UI and see what features are available and all.

You get a great big kiss on the lips for that one.  I doubt you want it but too bad.  Trackball is back in shape.
