Console control organization with cab?
« on: January 04, 2009, 11:04:35 pm »
Hey guys,

I personally love emulation and have many consoles setup on my cabinet even though I have the real consoles sitting in a closet.  Right now I have the following console controllers hooked up to my cabinet:

2 x NES
2 x SNES
2 x Sega Genesis
2 x Sony PSX
2 x Sega Dreamcast
2 x N64

All are hooked up via USB and USB Powered hubs using various adapters.  I was wondering how you would suggest organizing/storing controllers.  The controllers really need to be connected at all times as when they are disconnected/re-connected windows assigns different ID's to them.  Because of this I'd have to re-configre the controls each time I want to play.

How would you suggest organizing/storing external controls like this?

well, if you want them connected to your cabinet at all times, you really have two options:

1: store them inside the cabinet, accessible via a door of some kind (coin door perhaps)

2: mount hangers of some type to the sides of the cabinet to hang them on.  you could perhaps drill 2 columns of holes down the side and use various peg-board hangers to hold the various controllers.

Here is something I made for a friend..

Basically its in all in one adapter for just about every controller you could want. Switchable up front. He mounted it in his arcade cab but I have yet to get the pics.
