Hello,
I'm starting my cabinet using a more curved design that I quite like, what does anyone else think?

btw, this is my first post to the forum :)

Welcome to the forum!

Your design is not exactly my style, but its quite quirky and interesting, and I say if you like it then go for it!  Reminds me of those horse carousel thingies. I think it looks cool from the side!

I think it looks pretty cool!

You must be a heck of a lot better with a router than me... :hissy:

Thanks, I would say my google sketchup skills were better than my router skills at the minute. But I have a friend who is a builder and carpenter, and happens to be doing some building work for me soon :)

The design is just a starting point (the control panel was just a 2 minute add-on), I think I'll be making the top half wider as it looks skinny at the minute and angling it slightly back.

I'm making a full size cardboard version to iron out cutting problems and any obvious flaws.

I don't know if it's any use to anyone but my sizings were based on a plan of a standard cabinet layout, as below, if anyone wants it (sketchup file) as a starting point I can attach the file. The sizings are all to scale.

Whoa, cool man....I'm trippin' out looking at those plans!!! :dizzy:
It will look best if you put it in a room where there is some freaky 1970's wavy carpet, a lava lamp, and a space helmet T.V.!! :afro:
Can't wait to see the finished product!

Welcome to the new obsession of your life. :)  I like the design, kinda funky without being wacky.

I would be interested in your sketchup file.  Not a lot of experience with the program, but want to learn and this would be a good starting point.

Also are you planning to use a LCD flat panel in the cabinet?  I ask because your depth looks pretty slim in the top with your design.

Hello,
The drawing you see gives 32cm for screen depth, so is too small for my crt, which is why I'm increasing the width slightly.

The attached documents are the sketchup files. I've also posted a pretty poor youtube video which is waiting to be made available...

I think sketchup is great for drafting out ideas, but for actual plans probably not so good as it's quite hard to separate your objects once sketchup has joined them together.

[edit]btw, anyone noticed a bug in this editor (I'm using firefox), when you add attachments the keyboard stops entering text so you have to click Post then re-edit, and if you have an error (I posted the wrong file format), you lose your message content.

I've had all kinds of issues with sketch-up since I've switched to firefox. I've had the text issue and also I've had the whole damn thing lock up completly. Real pain-in-the-arse sometimes  ::)

Personally like you said it's a little curvy for my taste.  I do think it unique and interesting looking though.
