Christmas haul
« on: December 25, 2008, 11:18:53 am »
As usual, spoiled by my in-laws.  I got a cordless dremel tool, which is awesome since I somehow lost my dremel in the move to Florida.  I also got a cool little dremel vice, a huge set of bits and a set of diamond cutting discs (my favorite of all dremel accessories).  They also got me a lounge patio chair (which I can use right now since it's still hitting above 80 degrees here regularly  >:D ).  They also gave me various little items like boxers, tie, shirt, $50 gift certificate to American Eagle.

And Stacy gave me tickets to the Sony Ericson Open (professional tennis tournament in Miami)!!!   So.  Effing.  Excited.  They're nosebleed, but that's okay.  We won't always be poor.   ;D

I was secretly hoping for Rock Band 2 for the Wii, but I knew I wasn't going to get it.  Too expensive.   :)

I got a new sound system for my Jeep, Simpsons season 11, 50 bucks at Best Buy, that Pac Man machine tree ornament from Hallmark, and an Xbox Live wireless headset from my brother (that way he can hear me complain about him beating me up in COD...)

Overall, good haul!

We spent light this year. My wife made me some kick ass things though. She made me a cover for my bumper pool table, and crocheted plush Mario and Luigi dolls. No pics yet, but will put them up soon. I'll be bugging her to make some sets to sell I think.

And you celebrate a festival meant by the holy Roman empire to help facilitate the conversion of pagan celts to christianity to further the level of control over them?

BTW, Did I mention that I didn't get anything for festivus?

I got a few dvds and games, but the most unusual thing I got is a professional magic tilt box.  It was made for a recent show where they brought the box out on stage, showed it was empty, then the host of the show jumped out of the box.  It was taken apart for transport after the show and I haven't had a chance to put it together yet, so it's still in pieces, but I'll hopefully have time tommorrow night to start putting it back together.  My brother-in-law's dad was once kind of big in the magic field (he was the first person to ever do a magic show on ice back in the 1940's or 50's, knew all of the greats like Blackstone, Mark Wilson, etc., and is still friends with the owner of the magic castle), and he made this box for the recent show and decided to let me have it since I've always been into magic.  It should be pretty cool once I get it together.

I celebrate whatever anybody else is celebrating so long as it's fun.  :)  I'm neither Christian nor Pagan, but I celebrate Halloween and Christmas without hesitation.

j

Awwwww. I's give ya's a big squish. Incidentally, I haven't really gotten anything yet, either. Well, twenty bucks from an aunt - which was very welcome, although quite surprising. But anyways all I usually get is some money from my parents and then maybe something from my dad's sister. (My last grandparent - gramma - died early in the year so nothing from her now.) What's most important to me, though, is hanging with the family, which we didn in plenty yesterday through the evening. Good 'nuff fo me.

Well, a novice one .. I was in Disney world back in 2001, and they had a PEZ store in main st. I bought a Bee-head, and over the years started getting a few more here and there. The Wife got me a set of Pink Panther characters (from the cartoon) one year for our anniversary .. those are my favorite ones, never released in the states.

Total so far is around 55.

I ended up getting a copy of Lego Star Wars for the Wii (wanted it but never got around to buying it for myself) and Bully (also for the Wii - really fun game).  I received a copy of Season 11 of The Simpsons and am wondering why they decided to cheap out on the packaging (cardboard sleeves instead of the plastic hubs?).  My girlfriend got me a bunch of boardgames.  Oh, and I finally got a copy of "King of Kong".  Can't wait to sit down and watch that.  Also, a couple of good books: Artie Lange's "Too Fat To Fish" and a book called "The Dumbest Generation" which discusses technology's impact on this generation of teenagers.   A lot of good stuff to keep me entertained until the end of the year.  :D

I was wondering the same. I think it might have been along the same lines as the Futurama movies being "carbon neutral" i.e. no plastics (or something, thats the only thing I can think of since everything is cardboard on those packages). Just cardboard that happens to be cheap. These things will get wrecked within one road trip. I think I might make thin-pak inserts and keep the cardboard for show.

I got an Archos 605, which is kind of like a less elegant but more functional iPod touch.
http://reviews.cnet.com/4370-11399_7-312-101.html

Also got a PS3 with Tiger Woods 09 and that early release of GT5 (prologue?). I've been wanting a BluRay player so the PS3 has that covered. Not sure if there are any Stern fans on here, but I got the audio book of Artie Lange's Too Fat To Fish. Haven't listened to any of it yet, but looking forward to listening to that while driving.

It was a good gadget year... I got the Archos, and I got my wife an iPod Touch and my daughter a Nintendo DS. I'll end up getting to use those when they get bored with them. I have a PSP and always dismissed the DS as a kiddie handheld, but it does seem pretty fun. My daughter is only 4 and absolutely loves it.

I ran into Santa at Best Buy yesterday, and after a brief tussle, he was persuaded to get me an lcd TV.  ;D

House Brand Dynex LCD. The reason I got it was because the floor model Dynex looked better than most of the other brands - even the fancy Sony's and such. They are rebadged LG LCD's apparently. 4 year warranty was only $69 too!

Me too.  Mine also started by accident.  I'm up to at least 300 now, I think.  It's pretty interesting how quickly it grows over time simply by picking them up in the store when you see ones you don't have.

we went a bit skimpy this year.
I got a new meat slicer. ( not plastic) ( I have worn 2 plastic ones out)
RCA 4 gig mp3 player
( bought my daughter a black 4 gig zune)
Stupid thing needs to log onto internet. was down loading from 8am to 8pm and internet booted me off
(28k dial up  :embarassed: )
Bunch of University Of Kentucky stuff
(we have a UK room )
spent $400.00 at Walmart yesterday day.
bought a 500 gig maxtor one touch ! this was HUGE deal to me
all my PCs have 40 to 80 gigs hard drives. I have backed up all my PCs and have a huge amount of space for my movies

with every thing 1/2 off we bought all new Christmas lights, new fiber optic tree , well the works... Next year will be a snap to set up the house.
I had to go with a fiber optic because all my darn cats.
They broke the base of the old tree. (climbing up and down it)
chewed on all the lights.
squirt gun is no help. Cats get baths every week. They love the water.
I will take a bath and at least one cat will jump in.

I did find a stock pile of PS2 games for $2.00 at a rental store
My daughter (13 years old) and I stayed up all night and finished Ratatouille
she loved it.

They are rebadged LG LCD's apparently. 4 year warranty was only $69 too!

Olevia is the same thing.  I have two of those - for the price it's a standout TV.

LG 22" LCD for the kitchen to replace an aging 17" Dell LCD tv that's acting flaky
Gears of War 2
Fallout 3
WowWee TriBot to add to my collection of useless robotic toys
Skagen titanium watch
nice pair of casual shoes from Aldo

Most bought "after christmas" since we had 2 weeks of terrible weather before christmas and it was almost impossible to get to the malls / stores and even UPS/FedEx/USPS delayed delivery of tons of stuff....

I've openly banned anyone from getting me clothing (my sister is the only one who choose to ignore that).  Not that I don't appreciate the gift, but often times, it's the wrong size or something I can't see myself wearing yet I haven't the patience to go and return it.

Having our son, 16 months, as the emphasis this year, it made xmas for the wife and I kind of challenging, and in the end cool.  We both decided we didn't want anything, so we both decided to get each other one gift that we didn't know about and it had to be either sentimental, handmade, or both.  I bought her a necklace with 7 stones of our childs birth month.  The idea being that when the next child is born in March she can change half the stones out with his birth stone and so on.  Easy score for me there!  She made me a very nice scrapbook of my first semester teaching.  It was exactly the kind of thing I would love to have made if I sat down and took the time.  So, with the kid kind of understanding what was going on with the toys and our gifting, it was an excellent xmas!  I never thought I would say that without getting some sort of gadget for xmas.

just looking at that wiki:

"He was also a patron of the Varangian Guard"

sounds kinda star trek-y to me  ;D
