Easy DS Lite unbrick method for those who bricked theres
« on: December 22, 2008, 02:02:10 pm »
I had got a DS lite that was bricked from a failed flashme attempt as trade and I had taken the wifi/bios chip that is socketed on the motherboard out of there and replaced it with a stock one from another DS lite and it had booted right up like it was new again and all better now.

yep that method works also with it powered on only and it is suggested to do it with a full battery and also have it plugged in while powered on so if the battery or wall socket fails it still would have power and not brick it due to lack of power during the process somehow.

you just need another working firmware chip from another console is all but I am not sure if it can be stock or if it needs to have flashme on it already or not in order to unbrick the bricked one.

I just wanted a stock working DS lite and got away with swapping it out for another stock one and it worked as stock again.

you're welcome :p

I sent him a bricked one that failed because the power went out in my house while I was flashing it :(
I'm glad he got it working, I felt bad for killing it.

BTW - With Slot 1 cards there is no need to use flashme.  Flashme was only to allow slot 2 (GBA) cards to boot DS games using the DS bios.

I was flashing the DS to use the slot 2 card to play GBA games.

I found a way to connect controllers to them but it renders the gba port useless so I am trying to find a way to wire in some type of socket plug in type deal so the gba port would not be toached at all and that way the controller could plug in and unplug wthout any tools or hassle by the added controller port.

I hear the DS lite is not very comfortable after playing for over an hour straight and some preffer to set them on the table instead of holding it where with a snes controller it would be more comfortable to hold and it would weigh less of coarse.

I also was thinking of making a single 6 button arcade controller and mount the DS right in the middle of it so it is just the buttons joys and 2 screens on top of the single player CP  and have everything else hidden inside :dunno

I was flashing the DS to use the slot 2 card to play GBA games.
Why would you need to flash it to play GBA games via slot 2?  GBA works by just inserting a GBA cart.  I don't have my new DS Lite flashed and I play using my R4 in slot 1 and my EZFlash II Advance (GBA Flash cart) in slot 2.  I just boot up like normal and select to load the slot 2 from my R4 menu.  It then boots directly into the GBA menu.
