Playing around with Linux
« on: June 20, 2003, 07:30:06 pm »
;D Playing around in Mandrake right now.

Man Linux has come a long way since I last used it (Debian fit on one CD then)

This Konqueror browser is pretty cool, especially since I've heard so many bad things about Mozilla and this board together. I can admin the board in Konqueror, no display errors, just too l33t. Built in spell check kicks.

Only problems I have currently is I can't get the scroll wheel on my IBM mouse to work properly (unless it is supposed to just make the cursor jump up and down), and my sound isn't working, despite the Mandrake installer finding it and configuring ALSA for it. :/

ps2 or usb mouse?  What soundcard?

Yeah.  I missed you on chat.  I hope you figured out "tar -zxvf filname.tar.gz".
What were you installing that wasn't in rpm?

Oh, temp sensors for linux, look up lmsensors.

The mouse is connected to PS/2 currently. The Sound card is an integrated Sis 7021. It detected and configured the sound card in setup, but no sounds come out when in linux (even within the CD player).
