Ah, yeah my PS3 was complaining it needed a software update (to 2.53). I have a ps@home icon in the rightmost menu. Downloading the software for it now. It's a 3D community thing? Ah well guess I'll see it soon.

Keep getting "C-931 Error". Apparently the server for the Beta is overloaded. Ah well.

I don't know anything about it from personal experience, but Penny Arcade just gave their thoughts about it:
"Here is everything you need to understand about Home, if you should accidentally launch it from your XMB: press and hold the Playstation button in the center of your Dual-Shock or Sixaxis controller. From the menu that appears, select Quit."

Is that a review or did the web site designer leave something like the standard "Lorem Ipsum" text on it? It looks like english, but I have no idea what it means. Although I get that it (or whatever wrote that text) doesn't like it, which probably is enough. I wasn't too happy about it claiming 4GB of my harddisk.

It makes perfect sense to me  :dunno

Basically it says all you need to know about Home is how to exit it, implying theres no reason to actually use Home.  They talk in more detail about what they don't like in the rest of their post (which I linked to).

Also, if you've never heard of Penny Arcade, then I highly recommend reading through their comics.

Well I was talking about the text on Penny Arcade. Things like:
Quote
when manufacturing their flimsy dystopia, they actually ported the pernicious notion of scarcity from our world into their digital one

Quote
These were gushing fonts of liquid fun, habit-forming and dangerous

Quote
There is already a growing school of Home apologetics, fostered by the same Order of Perpetual Masochism that lauded the rumble-free Sixaxis

wtf? Isn't it trying just a bit too hard to sound "educated"?

Lol, I'll try that.

Tycho always gets a bit wordy in his news posts -- its sort of his thing.  It still makes perfect sense though.  You just need to think in a broader vocabulary when you read his little rants.

As for Home -- I loaded it up today.  I walked around, heard people yell and scream in a microphone, then play loud rap music through their mic.  Then someone typed out "bust on my nuts"  Then I got to go to a bowling alley with 6 lanes and wait just like PA mentioned.  Apparently there are 6 lanes to be used by ever single PS3 owner on the planet.  Then I tried a crappy arcade game after waiting 2 mins near the machines.  Then I got to play some stupid game where you drive a remote controlled saucer into bubbles for no apparent reason at all besides getting a score (its as fun as it sounds)

I got to see 15 or so ads while walking around this wonderful world.

There's an 85% chance or better that I will never load up this garbage again.  Swing and a miss yet again Sony.
first off your and idiot

Man I love the internet, haha.

I guess if you want to be extremely popular and mobbed by teenage boys, then create a female avatar.

Heres the second video from that page which I found pretty funny.

IT'S A TRAP!

In case you hadn't already figured it out, it's not a firmware update.

Wasn't it? The icon wasn't there before though.

So I tried it sunday, not overly impressed, waiting on 'Red Bull Island', so i can fly me a plane, it needs a lot of refinement, and the bowling alley is a joke  ::)

So...you just go on there and 'stand' around?

BTW, that Quincy video was HILARIOUS! Sad...but still hilarious.

I'm guessing by now every other guy on Home is doing that "It's a trap" thing.

That's the only reason I'd use it.

I might have some time this weekend to try it.

I haven't tried it yet, but it might be funny if we could get a big group together and screw with the people actually trying network by acting like we're rioting in Greece.

I tried it Friday while my friends were looking for a movie to download off of Netflix.
It was a mixed group so it was hard to agree on one, which gave me an another friend some time to walk around.

It's as boring as it sounds.  We came across some guy talking to a girl avatar telling her about how depressed he was because his best friend just killed himself.  We did the most logical thing to do in that situation, we put our avatar in between them and started doing the running man and robot dance.  We did this until the others decided on a movie, Dan in Real Life(It's a good movie  that's worth renting).  We were doing this for about 15 minutes.

The guy was ignoring us and kept rambling about why he's so depressed and the female avatar kept telling us to show some respect for the guy and to leave them alone.

We were drinking so we couldn't stop laughing although the sober ones in the group didn't see the entertainment in it.

I'd say PS3 Home is good if your looking for something to do for 15 minutes and your to drunk to do anything else, or if your best friend just killed himself and you don't have anyone to talk to because your family doesn't understand your pain and confusion...

...other than that it sucks.
