FINALLY! A freecycle moderator that I like.

Saw this on my freecycle email today:

***edited by moderator to remove reference to money and story***
In need of a small working vehicle. Anything would help.  Thank you so much for even reading this!!!  Happy Holidays!!!

Personally if I were a moderator I would just deny the phony sob story posts.
It is nice to see them cracked down on though.

I just let them through and let the end users decide whether or not to believe the sob story.  Editing posts as they come through gets to be way too much effort once the list is big.  And every time you deny something you have to have a dialog with the user as to why you denied it... try to keep the rules black and white so there's no room for argument.

"why did you deny my post?"
"it is for a rabbit.  Animals are disallowed under rule 14"

One thing the mods have to keep mindful of is that while this is an internet group it's a local group.  I don't particularly want a brick through my picture window.

Is your information public? I don't do it for Freecycle (haven't visited FC in months) but I usually create a second profile (email, whatever) to keep the "job" and "user" separated. As a moderator for one site, no one really had any idea who I really was. People thought I was everything from a female to the combined alter ego of two other moderators.  :laugh2:

Not publicly on the Freecycle list, perhaps, but this is a really small town.  It's in the phone book and anyone who has ever made an item exchange with me would know where I live.  It's not out there but I have never made any attempt to hide my identity.

edit:  added "with me" to make it clearer.
