Sega Saturn talk...
« on: June 19, 2003, 02:01:29 pm »
I bought a Saturn right when they came out...then decided 2 days later I wasn't comfortable spending $400+ bucks on a game system, and was waiting on playstation anyhow.......and returned it, much to the annoyance of the EB manager....screw him. ;)

Anyhow, I'm curious.....were there any saturn-specific games that just demanded ownership?  Were there any Sega Saturn games that were must-haves for the system?  Note: I dont generally like on rail shooters or Sonic-type adventure games...so the Panzer Dragoons and Nights type games aren't my cup of tea.
Others?

I know there were a bunch of SNK ports, but those are already in Mame.......just curious if there were games that stood the test of time that were saturn exclusive.  Guardian Heroes comes to mind but I could never figure out if it was a Final-Fight type of game, or if it was a pure side-scroller with no 3d action...
(think any SNES or Genesis  side scroller, Robocop, XMen, Vectorman etc)...
".....its like a Koala crapped a rainbow in my brain!"

Guardian Heroes - This game truly belongs in a cab. ;)

Guardian Heroes comes to mind but I could never figure out if it was a Final-Fight type of game, or if it was a pure side-scroller with no 3d action...

I would say that it is a button masher with multiple action layers (ie. you jump from the foreground to the middle to the back, similar to the foreground and background in Top Hunter for NeoGeo). This it one of the many psuedo 3d tricks used in the game. The gameplay is more indepth than Final Fight. The story mode is pretty easy so set difficulty up, but it is very replayable. :)

The arena fighting is really cool also. 6 player free-for-all ;D :o 8)

I bought a Saturn on release also and I still love mine (all four of them ;D). There are so many great games for this system. I guess I have always been a Sega fanboy! ;D
