Galaga Bezel - Rippled Art - How to re-adhere the artwork ???

30 bucks for it. Seems like a decent deal, IF I can find a way to take out those air ripples and seal it up.

I know about the plastic-wrap method for flaking, but does anyone have any tips on dealing with these ripples?

No way you're going to get them out now. The glue has dried out by now. And those ripples are too big.

I thought the Galaga bezels were screenprinted on the glass?

Yes, it's an original and the art is screened on. But over time, the ink separates from the glass and these ripples and bubbles occur.

The only thing I can think of would be to try and use a syringe needle to inject superglue or some clear adhesive in the cavities and then put some plastic wrap over it and try to press it down with a credit card. But it seems like the artwork would just chip into a a bunch of little pieces if I applied pressure.

It would heat it up.


I'd try a combo of a little warmth from, say, a hair dryer with some clear drying glue. I don't think you'll ever get anything perfect though.

What about a mild solvent? An age old trick of applying tough decals is to use a mild solvent to soften the decal before application. However, I'm not certain what kind of solvent to use that would soften, but not break apart the ink silkscreening.

It's a product called Triple Thick. But I don't know if TT is the correct product for this kind of repair. From what I understand, TT is used to prevent or slow down the cracking of the ink. I don't recall it used for bubbling. Maybe hop over to a pinball message board and find out?
