My latest Project, a former NBA Hang Time (95% done)
« on: November 21, 2008, 05:33:53 pm »
Here's the pop on this build.  As I slowly teach myself, by doing, all the little things that make a MAME machine much more entertaining to create.

2.8Ghz CPU
1GB DDR RAM
220 GB SATA Hard Drive
Logitech 2.1 Sound System
HAPPS 3" Red Illuminated USB Trackball w/ plate
2 HAPPS Mechanical Rotary Joysticks
Vortex Spinner with Crome MAME Knob
GGG GP-Wiz40 MAX w/ Roto-X Profiler driver
2-Player setup with 6 Button layouts
Coming Soon: LCD TopGUN
Running: MAMEUI32 v127.5, GameEx Front End, Visual Pinball, Jukebox (GameEx), & Daphne

You'll note, though the lights eat up alot of the detail, the redish glow of both the trackball and the ever fun LED Light Rope under the cabinet, just inside the 2" casters (2 front swivel, 2 rear fixed).  The effect is a deep red tone under the base of the machine and along the back (fading to the top rear) when the lights are dimmed a tad.

I left the NBA Hang Time artwork in the marquee, on the bezel frame, and across the front side of the control panel.  I could not bring myself to remove them for fear of the destruction of these bit of 1990's history.

The machine is laminated both inside and out?!  That took me by surprise when I picked up the cabinet a few weeks ago.  It was in nearly perfect condition and needs just some new T-Molding and some cleaning up with a damp cloth to be 99% back to condition.  Not bad for $125.00 with free drop off to my door. :)

A light rope, costing about $8.00 at the local Home Depot (comes in White, Red, Blue) was a major plus.

As to the inside laminate, your guess is as good as mine.  Seems the entire cab was covered, even the plates that held the PCB and other guts.  I was shocked to see it in such good shape and so well created.

Well, I have always played stick to left (player 1) and buttons to right.  My wife plays stick to right (player 2) and buttons to left.  Setting up the config in MAME is whatever makes reasonable play at the time, and so is the wiring to the GGG GP-Wiz40 MAX.  Do as your hands feel they must I say.

And yes, the Visual Pinball looks kewl on this screen.  Playing it at 1050x1680 if I recall.  The monitor does rotate, you just dont see it in these pics.  I set the bezel on a hinge to swing out for monitor adjustment as I have not the skill to go mounting some crazy mechanical rotational device in htis cabinet.
