About to route my CP plexiglass

Hello

My CP top is drilled and now I am ready to tackle the plexiglass.

I was planning on clamping the plexiglass on top of the CP and then use the router to trim the edges using a pattern bit and do the button holes with the plunge base and a panel pilot bit.

I never routed plexiglass before and I dont have left over plexiglass to test before.

Anything I should be aware before I go on with the above plan and start messing with that 50$ piece of plexiglass? 

do the rate of feed should be higher to prevent melting?
also when doing the button holes with the plunge base and the panel pilot bit, is there risk of cracking?

I wouldn't use a flush trim bit for the edges as it can leave a sharp edge or shavings stuck on the edge. I used a 1/8 inch round over bit on the edges to get a smooth and round lip. As for the button holes I first drilled a hole in the center, then used a flush trim/pattern bit to remove the excess plexi. The holes on the plexi came out exact same size as the button holes on the wood CP. Really nice. Of course I clamped the plexi down. I used about four clamps and never removed all of them at once. Only the ones that got in the way of the area I was to route.

As for speed, I'm no proffesional at how to do this but I did it by setting it at the highest speed and moving the router quickly over the area I'm routing. Never stop moving the router or it will melt the plastic.
