Galaga Bartop Help
« on: November 07, 2008, 10:46:56 am »
Does anyone have the angular dimensions of the sides of a Galaga machine?  I am making a bartop which will basically be from the CP on up.  I want to make it as authentic as I can so any help is appreciated.

no prob - there is quite a bit of debate about whether the slope on the bottom front (from the CP area towards the bottom) is accurate but the rest of the measurements are accurate.

I superimposed the design on the Jakobud site (red line) on a drawing that JoyMonkey made of the MsPac artwork (Galaga and MsPacman use the same cab shape)

There are some obvious differences in Jakobuds plans:
- The left top is slightly lower and therefore the slope is less steep
- The sides next to the kickplate are sloped
- The CP is too high and as a result the curve is to strong
- The CP tip is "pointy" instead of rounded

Wow - I didn't know there were that many differences... on a small scale it's probably not noticeable though.  I used the jakobud plans to build an 80% mini and it looks just fine to me!

Yeah, I guess when you go from the CP on up it won't be that noticable, but the compressed slope above the CP is pretty noticable though. The pointy CP corner is always a dead giveaway that it's based on Jakobuds plans.

I designed my PocketGalaga based on Jakobuds plans and I always felt it looked "off" (and not just because I altered the top section).

Heh - when I scaled down the jakobud plans the only thing I changed was I rounded that corner on the CP.
