graphic glitches on the screen : WHY ?
« on: June 17, 2003, 09:01:42 am »
Hello y'all !!!

I am having some questions regarding an hantarex polo monitor. My games display correctly using arcadeos/advmame but I noticed, when looking really closely, some really small graphic interferences on the screen at the size of a pixel. It makes the image not really clear but slightly "shaking" (not much though)  ??? .
Well it is still playable but I try to tweak as best as I can !
If anyone has gone through that .... help greatly appreciated
Bye and thanks
Max

Have you tried manual adjusting V-hold and H-hold? (assuming you have it)

Seems to be a monitor issue.

I had something similar, the whole picture was very slightly flickering up and down - but only the range of half a pixel or so. This happened since I moved it to the old living room - hopefully this turns into the future party & arcadehall :)

Okay, back to topic - try moving around with the monitor/VGA-cable and, if you've, the wire-remote.
Didn't noticed that before, but if I come close with the remotecables of the monitor towards the AC-cables of PC, monitor or whatever, the effect is there - if I move it away, everything is ok.

I'll take a look again if there is still a tiny movement around the pixels - I hope not, sometimes I really hate searching for faulty parts!

Thank you for your quick and helpful replies !
By the way carlos I am Max from France, the one you wrote to cpncerning a jeutel cab !  ;) Funny we always find the same people on the net  ;) I think your advice is great because if i recall myself ... i have this problem since I rebuilt the remotecable of the monitor to adjust the screen from the front of the cab. Well i guess ! One thing i am sure is that I didn't have this flickering problem before. I 'll try tonight to switch back to the original control pcb on the monitor chassis to see if this work ....  :-X
Cross your thingers and pray for me !!!! I 'll tell how it came out !
Max

ps : thanx again for these precious tips Carlos and  Alan !

It's a small world, after all! :) Really curious if it works - keep my finger crossed! :)

Ok thanks for the message Carlos ;)
Well ... it didn't work with the cable but I think i've seized a bit more the problem. In fact it is due to a too weak signal from my graphic card (just 1 v) . Usually jamma games had a 4 or 5 volt output. So it does this "dim" effect i'm talking about,  the image is slightly "flaring-up" ... To fix that i think i have to buy a video amplifier (like ultimarc's) .As i have seen it also solves (not completely, don't know)  the tearing effect everyone has problem with at the mame-univers.net forum ...

It seems like money really helps in that project  :P uh !!!

Thanks again  ;)

Ok ! I fixed it  8)! Let me tell you : just place a "cable collar" with plastic on it at the end of the small piece of metal that goes from the flyback transformer ground to hte mains ground.
Just doing that works tremendously fine !!! No more glitches on the screen ... just plain perfection  ;D

Could you make a photo of it? Currently I'm not that sure what a cable collar actually looks like! :)
