Which Neo Geo Emulator do you recommend?
« on: November 06, 2008, 08:18:46 pm »
For the home console of neo geo roms which emulator do you recommend?

Trying to find reviews of neo geo emulators lead me to many old pages on the net from '03 or '04 or earlier.

I am completely unfamilair with Neo Geo specific emulators so any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

Is 'Kawaks' the way to go?

NVM !

It looks like MAME emulates all the Neo Geo games afterall....unless someone thinks you need a separate emulator for neo geo it looks like there is no reason to have one...

There is no reason unless you want it to act like the console...which I think Nebula, WinKawaks, and Final Burn Alpha, all allow. Mame I think you limited to Arcade mode only...but don't quote me. :)

The real AES will play MVS carts...with an adapter since the carts are two different form factors...however I'm not sure if MVS units will play AES carts...adapter or not.

Basically it comes down to whether or not you want to toss in coins.

Really I wouldn't be concerned with emulating the AES...now the CDZ...I would just for the improved audio...but thats a different subject.

I was testing in mame and for the neo geo games and yes you can set (in game <tab menu> ) games to free play which changes the visible text of 'insert coin to play' to 'press start'.

I've only used mame .127 so I know it at least works with that version...I've only tested the neo geo games which were released for the home neo geo.... (see the link further up in the thread)
