Which console should I put in my JAMMA cab?
« on: November 05, 2008, 11:20:39 pm »
So I've been looking into this recently and I'm not sure which route to go. I've been looking at the Saturn, Dreamcast, and PSX. Not sure which would be best for the arcade experience. Making the fingerboard and hacking the controls is simple for me. Just wondering which system has the games that would feel more like an arcade? My cab right now consists of 2 Joysticks with 6 buttons each and 1 and 2 player start buttons. The monitor is a 19" TV being fed composite from a Jrok board. Only mono sound, no big deal for me. So all I really need to do is hack the controls and sound. I have a 6way A/V switcher that I can use to feed the monitor. I'd really like to hear from somebody that already has a console in their JAMMA cab.

I don't have one in my cab, but from what I've read and played I think the Dreamcast would be your best bet. Don't even need to mod it for all the games your heart desires. Part of Dreamcast's demise I think :( :(

Most versatile and best value is the Xbox...

Dreamcast seconded... lots of good shooters (Ikaruga, Radilgy, etc), fighting games (MVC2, Guilty Gear, etc), and other stuff.

Plus you can easily hack a Dreamcast VGA cable to make it output 15Hz for your arcade monitor.

edit: just read you are hooking it to a TV.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

Too bad its damn near impossible (from what Ive seen) to FIND Radilgy. Id even consider paying for it! Not that I dont pay for all my DC games...
