Not imperitive because i'm a righty but .... i wired up my JAMMA Adaptor / Harness to my Gun.Smoke PCB and player 1 side ( the right side) ALL three buttons work, the left side *players who are left handed) those three buttons don't seem to do anything during game play.. in *test mode* however they are all functional or show the same inputs just on a different line, so is it a dip switch that needs to be in a certain place, or what can i do to make the left side work for my friends who are left handed because the game is supposed to be ambidextrous
??? so the inputs obviously work in test mode, they are wired correctly / its probably something really simple.

Respectivly these are what show in *test mode* when pushing buttons / etc.

C000 - 00000001 - Player 1 Start                       - Working in game
C000 - 00000010 - Player 2 Start                       - Working in game
C000 - 01000000 - Coin Slot 1                           - Working in game
C000 - 01000000 - Coin Slot 2                           - Working in game

C001- 00010000 - (Right side) Shoot left            - Working in game
C001- 00100000 - (Right side) Shoot Straight    - Working in game
C001- 01000000 - (Right Side) Shoot Right         - Working in game

C001- 00001000 - Joy Up                                    - Working in game
C001- 00000100 - Joy Down                                - Working in game
C001- 00000010 - Joy Left                                   - Working in game
C001- 00000001 - Joy Right                                 - Working in game

C002- 00010000 - (Left side) Shoot left            -  NOT Working in game
C002- 00100000 - (Left side) Shoot Straight    -  NOT Working in game
C002- 01000000 - (Left Side) Shoot Right         - NOT Working in game

C003 - 10001000 ----------------- remain this way when in test mode* ? (i think the first "1" in this line tells you that your in test mode at least that's how it was in MAME)

C004 - 10000000 ----------------- remain this way when in test mode* ?

(None of my buttons do anything for the C003 or C004 Lines, possibly to show lives / credits or upright vs. cocktail / show test mode I have no idea)

Just as an example in *test mode*:
Without pushing any buttons it looks like the first photo::

If I push down all 6 buttons on the left / and right they look like photo #2:

Oh yeah as a side note, same thing in MAME so for those that want to help me load up Gun.Smoke Rom, hit TAB in MAME set the three appropriate buttons per ea. side any different 6 , once that's done and hit "F3" & once in test mode bypass the sound test and then you should be in the input screen, you will see the same thing as above. maybe someone can help me out with this. Doesn't really matter to me , but for all those in this store until that sides fixed your gonna have a tough time playing on my what should be an ambidextrous cabinet

*Fixed* I just ended up doing the "Y" Method / splitting the inputs to the other side etc.

Since it is just an ambidextrous setup both sides should be wired together.
Left side jumpering across to the right side or vice versa. Sharing the same inputs on your JAMMA harness.

Since none of buttons on the left side work it could be just a ground came off.
The ground is usually daisy chained from button to button.

Take a look at your control panel wiring and let us know what you have going on there.

Does the left side work for PLAYER 2 during a two player game? (might be in cocktail mode)
Really need to check out the wiring first.

I was thinking I'm just going to do it that way

buttons are all technically wired correctly because in test mode they show up as an input, everything is daisy chained together

It's currently set to upright on my dipswitch, I think i'm just going to end up using a "y" adaptor / share the pinouts from the right to the left etc

I can now confirm that when the game is set to cocktail mode the C002 line works as far as the buttons.. joy stick does not "upside down of course because i have an upright" the soloution must be to "jump" split the connection like you said. However I do not believe you can do this for MAME.. unless that's the only game you want to run etc.

Do you plan on running MAME in that cabinet along with the original Gunsmoke pcb ?

Don't confuse MAME with an actual hardwired arcade machine.
Sure, MAME emulates every game like the original, but you can remap any button you want to whatever you want to if need be in each individual game.
But if you physically tie those buttons together, then they are just that..... the same button. (including within MAME)

Can you take a snapshot or your control panel wiring?
This should be a simple fix, like you've already kinda figured out.
I'm just curious how it's wired now.

Everything except the 2 player select should be tied together to the 1P controls.
