South Park
« on: October 30, 2008, 10:26:42 pm »
Has anyone caught the last South Park?  It was a two part series the last two weeks.  It was a take on Cloverfield.  But more importantly, it has to be possibly the cutest, most adorable cartoon episode ever created.  Watch both parts to see what I mean.

It's amazing how they went from the most God-awful episode they've ever done (Indy,) to the most lovable episode ever, within a span of a few episodes.  (They referenced that episode in this one too for a brief second.)

That episode is very startling.
Back in MY day we lived on the moon and we had to build a rocket ship from scratch to get to the Earth before we suffocated.

You'd be the first person I've heard of that liked that episode.  So you didn't mind the emphasis on the disturbing process of rape?  What crossed the line was the fact that they seemed intent on focusing on the emotional aspect of it so much.  It rendered the episode to the point that you couldn't enjoy it one bit.

The only time it was funny was at the end when they arrested them while they were doing the stormtrooper.  Every other instance:  Extremely disturbing.

And try watching that episode with someone who HAS been raped.

Also, so Indy can explore the Ark, have some guy stick his hand in another's chest without any real force (that I remember, perhaps I'm wrong,) but it's not allowed to delve into something that may actually exist?

Though I will say the fridge scene was stupid.  I don't care how lucky he was.  0% chance of living through that.

I've taken the last hour to grab screenshots from this last episode and convert them.  I have avatars of all the guinea monsters ready, except the undressed ones, because then it's just a guinea pig.  Anyone can grab a pic of that.

I thought it was pretty crappy for the most part... but I don't absolutely loathe SS or GL... If I did?  Dunno.

I don't loathe Speilberg, but the new Indy was garbage.  Frankly GL has been insane for quiet some time and any project he's associated with lately has been horrible.  I mean, he decided to make a Hutt speak like Truman Capote and that the new Indy needed to have aliens.  Someone needs to get a restraining order to keep him away from the great movies and characters he made while he was still sane.

If Spielberg and Lucas wouldn't have created one of the biggest piece of crap movies EVER, that episode wouldn't have had to happen.

While you're at it, you might as well toss Stephen King in the pile with those two. Ever since SK had that accident, his entire writing style changed for the worse. Read the Dark Tower series to see the worsening progression of his writing.

Why?
Well, that's where we go a-ridin' into town, a whampin' and whompin' every livin' thing that moves within an inch of its life. Except the women folks, of course.

I'm still trying to figure out who the tatget audience is for south park anymore after the indy episode - I'm nearly 34 and I'm technically too young to have gotten the pinball machine scene reference(it wasa rip from The Accused, starring Jodie Foster from 1988 - I was only 14) and the Deliverance reference was technically too old for me - of course, my wife is 21 years older than me, so I guess I just like old thhings ( I better watch that and be glad she never reads these forums and is out at the moment ;)
I think it was George Carlin that first proposed that rape can be funny, so maybe the episode was also a bit of an homage to him, given it coming out fairly close to his passing...

FWIW, I thought the Indy episode was funny - even my wife though it was funny - I didn't see cloverfield, so maybe that why pandemic wasn't quite as funny to me, but it was enjoyable, not to mention startling.  I also enjoyed the election results episode.  So far there's only been one episode I couldn't watch al the way through -that being the one where Cartman has a sleep over with Butters - that just was too much and I 'll bet Cartman is really glad Butters didn't have a gun that night.

Are you old or just a dork if a google search on your last name turns up a usenet thread about the origins of k-rad(which sort of ties this to the fail thread)?
http://www.textfiles.com/bbs/krad-usenet.txt.

And how's this for another reason I'm old and a dork:

I just celebrated 10 years of marriage with my wife who is 21 years older than me - I met her on IRC -no fancy AOLIM, MSN IM, ICQ,match.com, eharmony, or texting for us!  And here's how cool she is:
heranniversary gift to me was to let me but the monitor that finally re-created my entire TI-99 4/A setup i had in middle school(which I sold in high schol for just enough money to buy a Sound Blaster 1.0 from Babages at the mall(one of the only reasons I ever went to the mall) - dork and old again :)  Which I think both may be requirements to post on this forum:P (and I prfer to make my own smilies dammit! Reminds me of How annnoyed I was when Sierra changed thier interface starting inKing's Quest V  to the stupid click on everything until something happens instead of typing to tell the character what to do - yep, definately old and a dork - and I may yet turn into Dana Carvey'sGrumpy Old Man SNL Character.
And, btw, if you got even half of my references, you're an old dork too ;)
