Thought I was generating a custom gamelist, got a full one!
« on: October 30, 2008, 11:16:47 am »
I've been a MAMEWAH user for about 3 years and have it tweaked and running fairly well, but wanted to try MALA.
I printed off the sticky and started the process last night. Great directions, but a couple of the downloads were confusing (I found them too, but at first thought they were in the MALA and/or MAME downloads. It may be helpful to clarify that, I've seen several post here to that effect. also had problems with the MaLaKeyHook.dll due to anti-virus(?) (tried shutting down everything, but still had an issue, so rebooted to Safe Mode and it worked OK)  Once I got past those, the installation was easy and the sticky was very good.

I started with a fresh MAME installation and copied a subset of my favorite ROMs into the ROM folder and their associated .PNGs into the SNAP folder. After I re-genetered the Gamelist, I get a list of 7,000 games!! (I was expecting only the 100+ I copied to the ROM folder).  What did I do wrong?
I took a quick look at the MALA wiki and didn't see anything. I also tried a search on the forum and didn't find anything I thought was relevant. I'm 99% sure it's pointing to the correct folder (I still have my old MAMEWAH and MAME setup) but I'll check again tonite.

Any other suggestions?

MALA looks cool and I am excited about getting it to run.  NICE job!

I think there's an option to only include games that have a rom file present. Check the mame settings in the options dialog.

Yep, I had the same issue! Just go to the MAME tab under MALA, and underneat the ROMS (I think) it has a selection for "Games only working" or something like that. Just lick it, and then right click to refresh, and it should reload only the working ROMS.

still stumbling through MALA......

I was able to eventually click these settings (more stumbling). :dizzy:

but now I can't remember how to re-generate the list.  (need to go back and re-read the wiki and mess with it a bit more)  any hints?

does appear to be a great FE, but I need to do a lot more reading to take advantage of some of the other features.    :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:

I currently have MAMEWAH setup for MAME, Visual Pinball, Future Pinball, Atari 2600, SEGA, Nintendo, and Super Nintendo, but I'd like to setup MALA for MORE! (I did see a 47 page doc with these setups, good reading for the weekend!)

Right click in the main window and pick "refresh main game list". Beware though - it only works if the main game list is the currently active list. And it won't affect any other game lists you may have such as a "favorites" list.

You probably already know this, but the button for refreshing custom game list properties is shown in the screenshot below.  This would obviously occur after a refreshing of the main game list.
