Help with adjusting controls and slight wave
« on: October 23, 2008, 06:49:41 pm »
When i bought my cabinet, there was no monitor chassis.  Just the tube.  I was told the tube was in perfect condition with no burn in.  After some research i found out the previous chassis was a hantarex polo.  did some more searching and found a few people replacing there dead chassis with a 25" chassis from 8liners.com.

So i ordered one and installed it.  Powered my game up and what do you know, picture looks nice.  so next up was adjusting the controls.  here is what is on the little control pod:

-H. Size
-H. Pos
-H. Hold
-V. Size
-V. Pos
-V. Hold
-Brightness
-Contrast

I can get the picture to fill up the entire tube no problem.  my problem is that the picture has a bend on each side and when i adjust the h. size for example, the middle of each side touches first, leaving the top and bottom of each side curved in a ways.  of course i can keep getting bigger and push the middle past the screen so the top and bottom touch but i was wondering if there was something i was missing.

basically with all four corners of the picture stretched to the four corners of the tube, parts of the game picture are off screen.  is there a way to fix this or do i just have to adjust it and get it as close as possible?

do the V. hold and H. hold have something to do with it?  each one when turned will scramble the picture if i go to far.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

2nd problem.

On the left side of the screen, there is a slight vertical wave about 5 inches long.  almost looks like some type of interference.  its not too noticeable but i see it every time and it bothers me.  if i make the screen size smaller, the wave gets smaller.  it stays with the game picture.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

the curve is down to pincushion adjustment, there should be a pot for that on the main chassis

would need to see a pic of the other problem, maybe its sync related

well on the back of the chassis there is a focus and screen pot but those are unrelated to the problem.  is there other pots that im missing?  i will take a look tomorrow.

side note, tonight when i was at bowling, i took a peek in the little arcade they have and 3 of the machines that i looked at all had the game picture was not fully stretched out to the bottom of the screen.  there was maybe like a half inch of black bar on the bottom.

as for the little wave problem, i will try and take a picture.  maybe a video.

the pincushion adjustment will be nicely hidden on the main board somewhere

your wave could be earth related

found the pincushion and got that fixed.

as for the wave, i made a video as it was hard to capture with just a picture.  the wave can be seen in the green bar.

let me know if you can not download this.

sorry, guess its kind of hard to tell.

starting at about 15 secs is where its real noticeable.  its a faint gray.  kinda where you can see my cameras reflection.

EDIT:  well the more i look at it, i realize how hard it is to see from the video.  its not only in the green.  it extends to the right(after i flip the camera on the side) of the green bar and into the black area.

i would disconnect the video signal plug and then turn the brightness up to see what happens on a blank raster,it will be easier to see the extent of this wave
