Subwoofer, Bass and the affect on components in my cab.

Yea dude the set of Klipsch promedia's I have are from E-bay.  They stated they were "new" and they looked it except for the slight corner tear of the speaker cover mesh.  But since these are for my cab I'm not using the speaker covers anyway.  Couldnt beat it for $90 w/shipping.  I wouldnt get all worried about one negative feedback.  Especially to save a couple hundred bucks.  I really would consider purchasing these, I dont know much about these Logitech speakers but I would imagine the Klipsch sound better.

You are going to get vibrations no matter what. I have several buddies who do the whole carputer thing and they have never had an issue with their hard drives failing. I wouldn't worry about it in you cab.

Forgive me for using logic... but if the frequencies are the exact same... then the port wouldnt need to be Tuned.   Tune = a set frequency range.    If you made the port hole
larger... the sounds would be different.

And yes.. you are going to get vibrations no matter what.   However,  there is a
HUGE difference in vibrational levels between a pc subwoofer and a powerful
car sub.   (or powerful home sub)

A pc sub might only be rated at 15 watts max (though it will be listed
at like 80 watts rms... which means, it will take 80 watts for a short time without
blowing up,  but it will sound like crap doing so)

A typical car sub starts around 100 watts,  and can be over 800 watts+.   The magnetic
driving power is much greater & the air movement is much greater...
thus the vibrational forces are much greater.

I pretty much guarantee that if you mounted a pcs hard drive on top of a car sub box,
and ran windows as normal while it was pounding away... the HD wouldnt last a year.

The HD heads are small as or smaller than a human hair (I believe).  Its very susceptible to vibrations... and as gets vibrated enough to scrape the surface of the discs.. it will eventually destroy itself.

As said... a pc sub probably cant do enough damage to be a problem.   And again,
may need a port drilled out on the cabinet to actually be able to hear them well
enough.

Visitor Q:
I have the Klipsch 5.1 here at my PC, more or less I think it is the same thing just 5.1. I have to admit, it does sound really good and other than the touchy volume control, it has been great. hehehe The good news is the 2.1 does not have the same volume control!

Ok, so I guess I will bit. I'll let you know for sure but I will more than likely buy a set tonight.

Reading over the posts here and listen to my setup here at home it is hard for me to tell if the bass is coming out of the port or the speakers on the side of the box. I mean I can feel the air pushing out the port but it sounds like the bass is coming out the speakers. With that said, in a cab would it be more important to vent the speakers or the port to the outside of the cab?

Thanks.

Pretty much mounting a hard drive in a car, irregardless of speaker choice, is going to be hard on the drive. Given that I've seen people install full blown servers in their SUV's, it's not as big a problem as one might think. Just be prudent with the backups.

If you use the "cabvol" program you don't have to worry about the touchy control.  You simply use the spinner to adjust the volume.  (you can assign any button to be held down and that activates the volume.)  i.e.  hold player 2 start and then turn the spinner to adjust.
