Back to my Roots, Is there any interest in...
« on: October 20, 2008, 03:47:30 pm »
I know no one will care, but I'm getting back to my best at one particular insignificant game.

Watch out Kelly - this is no NVRAM and rusty as hell on the old Long Horse. With NVRAM this record is toast. The run was only 20k~ below what I got 4 years ago and with no NV and no two-players-per-button-crap I feel I'm ready to step up heheh.

But I will say, the varying performance of any particular MAME version really impacts the potential / playability. Wolf106 is much nicer to me than anything after 125~

Anyway, the real purpose of this thread: I am thinking of writing some purchaseable retro game guides (based upon the games I'm good at). Would people by this or try and leech for free?

cheers

Probably leech for free. As far as I'm concerned, guides don't hold a lot of worth until you get into the console scene and even then, not until you get into the NES era. Exceptions exist of course.

But then again, I'm not in any sort of competition to be the best of the best and to star in my own movie. :dunno

"tEh intarNetz" is one big guide. Why would anyone pay for information that's normally free on a website?

Write the guides as a website, and monetize traffic with Google text ads.
NO MORE!!

Thanks for the replies. I like the website idea, but in all honesty I'm not that bothered about making a few quid from Google Ads

I am working on a guide for Hyper Sports, whenever I'm not working on other projects. I'll post a link here when it's done as I'm sure there are one or two that play this :)

Thanks again

Yeah, am very familiar with gamefaqs. Might post it there too. It might be on there that there's a Track n Field guide, I can't recall. In any case, it's not brilliant.

I tend to  use gf for more modern games. Is there a dediacated retro site about?

Thanks
