TV Problems
« on: October 20, 2008, 04:06:53 am »
I wonder if anyone can help me with this issue?

I have a JVC AV-25TS1EK TV which I have my PC hooked up too, everything is perfect and working great but the picture has the thop and the bottom cut off.

Now I have managed to get a hold of the service manual and instructions on how to change the size, My problem however is that when I press the buttons that it says to press to access the service menu nothing happens at all.

I noticed that in the service manual that the remote they refer too is a different model that the one I have, The one I have seems to be a TV/VCR combi remote, but it still has the same buttons on it as the standard TV remote.

Do you thing this could be the issue, Will I have to buy a standard remote comtrol for this TV to get it to work?

I thought I would post up too see if anyone has had any experience with this TV, I know its a long shot but I thought it might be worth a try.

Thanks

Hi Marc,
I only managed to get my TV working properly with Mamewah last night follwoing some advice and an ini file
from Sailorsat.
I had exactly the same problem as you, the top and bottom were cut off.
It was working fine with my old s-video setup so didnt think it was the mame.ini.
Anyway I copied Sailorsats ini file and it worked perfectly.
Just thought I would let you know on case you are having the same problem.
The ini file is in the soft 15khz thread on the last page if you want to try it.
Good Luck.

When I was doing my TV to reduce overscan so I could read the tickers at the bottom I had a huge problem till I read it carefully and read that some of the buttons were on the TV itself, not the remote.

Thanks for the replys guys.

Sham my problem is in windows as well as mame and my frontend.

richms, I have read the service manual about 100 times hoping I would find something like this but there is no mention of anything on the TV, the service manual clearly states the buttons are on the remote.

This is the last thing I have to do before I can start on the cab, pretty annoying really :(

I spoke to sommeone regarding this and they said that it could that the eprom is not functioning that is causing me to not be able to get the service menu up, could this person be correct ?

Also what eprom would it be?

marc, there are a number of responses to your problem

- You need to use the original TV remote to access service mode.  Other remotes will probably not work.

- The VGA-SCART cable I made for you auto-switches into AV mode constantly by sending 12v to pin 8, so that will may thwart your attempts to enter TV service mode while using that cable.

- You would temporarily disconnect the 12v power supply, if you feel confident.  You could do this simply by temporarily removing the pin from the molex plug (12v is yellow).  The cable will still work, but you'll need to select AV mode manually.

- Otherwise, try service mode with the TV on normally, without the SCART cable attached.

Otherwise, you are stuck unless you can find/borrow a real remote!  You could try taking the TV to a TV repair shop, where they might have the remote.

Thanks for the reply!

I will try and just access the menu on normal TV tonight, would it work with nothing plugged in atall?

I can access all other menus on the TV just not this one.

Also does this eeprom thing hold any truth?

I spoke to a tv repair guy and he said that it could need a new one

I have the service manual and it says that you only need to press "DISPLAY" and "CINEMA/GAME" key.

It does not mention anything about a code as such.

Also, Zeb would a replacment remote do this job? I have managed to buy a replacment alternative original remote.

Its not a JVC brand one, but it is one specifically for my TV.

Sorry, but universal or 'replacement' remotes probably won't work.  Usually only the original remotes work properly.  But you never know.

I still think that trying the local TV repair guy is the best option.  However, note that they can sometimes be a little bit cagy about helping people access service mode, as that is normally restricted to service techs.  But you'll never get anywhere unless you ask them.

Hmm, this is turning out to be a nightmare.

I spoke to the local TV repair guy and he said straight away that it was a faulty eeprom, but I think that sounds dodgy, why would a faulty eeprom only effect the service menu?

http://www.remotes4u.co.uk/alternative_remotes.php

Thats the link to the explination of the remote I have bought, they say its functionally the same it just looks different, so I assume you would be able to access the service menu?

While on the phone to the service guy he actually told me the keys to press to get into the service menu, the same as it said on my service manul and it didnt work.

He just said it was the eeprom as I said above.

Thanks for the answer zeb

It might be too much of a hassle for you, but if you take your TV to the repair guy, he'll try his original remote, and then you'll know for sure.

I had enough!!!

I took it to the TV repair guy to fix, he is going to replace the eeprom as he said the tv does not require a service remote, I did make it clear to him that I have to be able to access the TV service menu, he was ok with this.

Going to cost me £35 -£40 gbp but its worh it, for someone who wasnt too clued up on this untill a month ago , this cab project has been giving me alot of stress, still cannot wait to get it done :)

Thanks to everyone for the replys and specially to zeb you have been brilliant with everything :)
