Stupid bailout ---daisies---

Just reading through this article on the bailout and how it may directly affect regular folks... came across this:

Energy tax credits. The government is enticing you to make your home's energy footprint smaller next year. In 2009 (they skipped over 2008, says Luscombe) you can qualify for a credit of up to $500 for qualified improvements to make your home more energy efficient. These include adding insulation, replacing windows or buying an energy-efficient water heater.

Sonofabitch... I spent thousands on a new furnace in 2008.

The energy tax credits are nothing new. I got almost $200 in credit for new basement windows, an exterior door, and a storm door last year.

Not new but they expired last year, and rather than just extend them, they skipped 2008 and put them back for 2009.  So since I spent the money in 2008, I'm hosed on it.

ahhh, I see. That sucks!

well, you can always claim it next year and hope you don't get audited. If you do get audited, well then you just say it was a clerical error and pay the difference.
