Best Front End for Win98SE
« on: June 15, 2003, 12:45:25 pm »
I'm looking for the best front end for my needs and I hope someone here can help me. Here is what I'd like:

I'll be running Win98SE and Windows command line Mame. I currently have no plans to run other emulators on this machine.

I will be playing PC games, Golden Tee PC and Tiger Woods 2003 at least, so I'd like to be able to launch PC games from the same games list that holds Mame games. I don't want my guests to have to change emulators through the front end just to play Golden Tee PC.

I'd like to be able to categorize the games into my own lists, like favorites, sports, classics, etc.

I'd like the FE to be very stable. I don't want to have to reboot the machine during a party if my guests have been playing games for a few hours.

Those are my requirements. The other bells and whistles that some FE's have would be nice, but I don't want to sacrifice stability for them. I'd rather not have the "wow factor" if it means I'll have to reboot during a night of gameplay.

I have downloaded MameWah, Lazarus, Dragon King, AcadeFX, EMU Loader, and Game Launcher. Can anyone tell me if any of these would do what I needed it to do, or conversely, if any of them will not do what I'm looking for? I don't mind spending a few days or more configuring the FE to look the way I want it to and do what I want it to, I would just like some help in narrowing down the list above.

I appreciate any and all replies.

from that list and those criteria...i would narrow them down to mamewah and dk. and personally try dk first because of the beautiful way it renders the image. (if they are not what you are after you can then also try emutron and my fe...)

Thanks )p( :)

MAMEWAH will be able to everything you want EXCEPT merging the PC games with the MAME ones.  You would have to have a separate list specifically for PC games (& use a button to switch to it).

I think DK is able to do this tho  :)
