Are LCD's dangerous when open ( Solved, Thanks)

Hi there I've read a million times about how CRT's hold a large charge etc, but are LCD's dangerous to work on. I saw another thread which had almost the same problem as me that the TV wont start up it just stays on standby, and changing the caps worked on that one so I am going to give that a try on mine but is it okay for me to unscrew boards inside it?
Really don't want a shock

the only thing a little scary in a lcd is the inverter but with power off there should be nothing to worry about

if you have an external power supply then look there first

The power cable goes direct to the TV which then goes onto this board, I was hoping to find burnt Caps or something viably wrong , so not too sure what to try now?

I can see two caps on there that need to be changed.  They should not be bulging on the top.

Sorry for my ignorance, but could you please tell me what two, I'm not really sure what to look for.

Thanks  , Is the white glue like stuff on them supposed to be there or is it some kind of leakage, as there is some on another cap at the other end.

Is the TV a philips? I have a mate who has managed to score several dead ones that just had a toasted power supply. Its no wonder they are getting out of the TV business when all their crap breaks.

Also, did you check that fuse?  Bottom left corner.

Yip, I checked the fuse, it's fine. The make is a Baird? I've not heard of them before but its the mother in law's tv so I thought I would give it a try. I ordered the two caps today so I'll see if that does the trick.

Okay I got the Caps but they are about 3 or 4 mm taller then the previous ones which means the metal lid casing is now resting on them, is this bad, maybe for heat etc, if so can I cut a little hole in the casing to let them slot out?
Sorry I've no pictures but I'm in work and hoping to do it today as there is plenty of tools in here.

Not sure ,I've only got the board into work with me. I was thinking of cutting a 1 inch hole for them.
The lid would be pushing down on the caps which I'm a bit unsure about.

not a good idea to have pressure on components as after some time due the heat the solder will crack.
if you want to cut a hole then fine,i would prove it worked first before disfiguring the case though

Or you can try laying them flat if you can figure out how to position them. You'll have a little extra lead, but for a cap that big, that much extra lead would have negligible impact on operation. Just take care not to short them out, shrink tubing around one leg might be helpful there.

I would echo grantspain's sentiment about disfiguring the case. I have a lot of reasons I might want to disfigure the case, getting a cap to fit is usually not one of them.

I count at least four possible five locations for that white goober. For as much as what's there and the condition of the board, caps, etc, it's glue.

Thanks for all the help. I drilled 2 holes just big enough to let the caps poke through which didn't make too much of a mess of the case, took it home and hey presto it actually worked 
I'm very grateful for all the help as I don't know anything about TV's, maybe I'll try and look at my own TV in my bedroom that has been lying broke for 6 month +, or maybe next week it's the weekend now!
