Just wondering

Why is it that Metal Slug 4 newer is supported in mame?! I mean, mame supports the other Metal Slugs, and metal slug 4 can't be that different from the other games software-wise. I tried it on neoragex, and it works smoothly, so where is the mame support for it? Want it, want it, want it :D

I vaguely remember from a previous thread that motorfish had got Metal Slug 4 working on his machine. A friend of his had got it working by compiling a hacked version of MAME. It might be worth sending him a private message if you want it.

The general idea is that the MAME Devs won't put any software into MAME that is newer than two years old, or still very popular in the arcades.

For example, Ms Pac/Galaga came out in 2000 (2001?) but is not in MAME, as it's still very popular.  Metal Slug 4 and KOF 2002 are still quite new.

However, you can edit the source, and get these games to work.  It's quite easy, and there are several tutorials on the web to show you how to roll your own MAME.  The tools you need are even on the mame.net site.

It's not based on time when they will add it or not... It's when they feel its ok.

All of the Golden Tee's are fully emulated... but they didn't even add the driver as a test driver since the game still makes a lot of money (1) and you can' just replace the drive itself to go to the next one (2).

MS4 is too new... Still being sold... Not going to happen... but if you compile yourself... I think you just have to change one line of code... I've never tried it myself though.... There is already enought MS for me now.

Well, I'm having a coder looking at it nowish, should get interesting! Should I report in about if it succeeds, or should I keep that info out of this forum?!

It's based roughly on time.  It's more on popularity, ie what is making money.   Just like I said.
