.....NOT!  :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

Seriously, how do you get knocked out by an off-balance 'stick a hand in your face' jab?!?

The free UFC fights on Spike blow this pathetic crap out of the water.

Obviously its possible, else he wouldnt have been KO'd.

I dont really care much about that guys hype.    Nor do I care
much for the UFC.. which to me is a big joke.

But one thing I do know about is power in striking.   When I was
heavily into the arts...  I developed enough power to KO a person with
my first drawn back only 6 inches or less.   I proved this on several
opponents who gave me enough attitude to use it.

There is Little one can do to stop a KO.   No matter how big and
strong you are... if your brain gets rattled.. your going down.

I'd never seen Kimbo fight, mainly because I didn't care. I've been tired of the hype online over this guy.

So I was flipping through the channels and saw that he was supposed to fight Shamrock in a few minutes, so I thought I'd stop and check it out.

I was rooting against him from the get-go, so I was glad to see him get dropped.

Though it wasn't an impressive punch, it was right on the button and phased him long enough not to be able to defend.

Watching the replay on Youtube, I thought it was more a situation of Kimbo trying to shoot in on the guy's weak leg lick, and having it pulled out from under him, which dropped him to the mat, where he was pounded on until the fight was called.  He certainly didn't look dazed as he dropped, more of a "oops" moment.

That said, I've never been particularly impressed by Kimbo, even on his bare knuckle fights that made him "famous".  Yeah, he looks badass, and he's got a solid punch, but he's slow as hell.

I bet Shamrock is super pissed because that could have been him that knocked Kimbo out. What is EliteXC gonna do now? They only have Carrano left as a marketable draw.

That just happens to have been in the main event of most of the MMA events with the highest TV ratings in the history of the sport.  He may not be the fighter he once was but he is still one of its very biggest names.  If EliteXC cared about fight quality they wouldn't have had Kimbo Slice in their main events.

It doesn't even take power to knock someone out. Connect in the right place and those blood vessels constrict. Drop ya right out. Then there's the more esoteric chi dudes, who just touch you and you're out.

Whats funny to me is that every one says they dont care about kimbo, but they are the ones barking the loudest about this.  Another thing thats funny is that people assume that kimbo is this bad ass MMA fighter just cause he was a STREET FIGHTER. fighting on the streets and fighting in the ring are 2 different worlds.  I for one am a kimbo fan, and even i thought he was going to lose if he fought shamrock.  He's new to the sport yet everyone talks about him like he's been in the game for over 10 years.  what i do like about kimbo is that he brings a characater/charisma to the sport.  i think he is a better entertainer than a fighter, and i really like that.  i was also a fan of genki sudo back when he was in the game cause i loved his entrances and how he would break dance in the middle of fights. bottome line though for me is that i want to see kimbo grow in the sport and i would like to see him go far, but him being a top level fighter right now he is not.  i would say he is medicore at best.

Funny. I said I don't care, and I DON'T.

That was my first and only time seeing the guy, and obviously he gave no reason in that fight for me to be impressed. I haven't gone on and on about him like you seem to imply.

If barking loudest means saying nothing, then, yeah, I'm the biggest dog in the yard.

Ah it all makes sense now. They did scout Petruzelli - here is a detailed account of their fight strategy:

If it looks like its going to the ground Kimbo, go ahead and take a dive. You DON'T want to go to the ground with this guy.  :laugh2:

ya in a way it is akin to wwf.  the fighters that usually get the most attention are the ones with charisma, a good example is kimbo.  its great to see fighters run there mouth at each other wwf style.

ever see frank trigg go off on how great he is?  ever see phil baroni go off on how he's gonna know the ---fudgesicle--- out of who ever he is gonna next?  rampage cracking jokes on everyone.  nick diaz gettin into fights with after after they fought in the locker rooms.

dont get me wrong you have to have alot of skill to be in the sport but its not always the best fighters that get the most attention, the perfect example is kimbo.  I'd rather watch 2 fighters that aint worth a dam go out and knock the hell outta each other, than watch 2 top notch fighters  to scared to swing cause they know how good the other fighter is

I'm not interested in any of that stuff - but I think that if it's going to really be 'Ultimate', then it should really be.

By the way, you can cuss. If you want it, you can set your AC display settings so yours (and anyone else who also sets theirs the same) will show.

Its true...  That there will never be anything  Ultimate about it...  as nobody is
going to allow such brutality.

It should not be called Ultimate.  Its not even close.

Keep in mind how the original UFC was before it was regulated by the state athletic commission and when there were only a handful of rules.

Some memorable moments, sure, and entertaining in small doses, but it's much better now than how it started.

People who trained in and mastered Lethality were not going to sign up for such an
event even when it was mostly unregulated.    Its called Ethics.

 The money wasnt good either.

And then you also have the concept of the Value of Life.   A smart fighter knows
that a lot can happen in a fight.  One slip up,  and your Life could end very early.
Not many people would gamble their lives for a few bucks.   Life is Priceless...
and no amount of money can yet revive the deceased soul.

I can tell you one thing... Those fights are Boring as hell.   I simply cant stand to
watch two guys rolling around on the ground touching each other for minutes at a
time.

They NEED to limit ground time to 15 sec max,  or take it out completely.   No tap out victories.  If a person taps... they stand them back up and try again.   No Ground Pound crap (show dominant position, hit twice max, and they stand you back up)

Wow....what you've suggested sounds even more boring.

I love to see good ground work AND ground 'n' pound. (Though excellent stand-up is still the best)

I had to look up who this guy is because I'm not much into MMA. It seems to me that someone who names his first two sons after himself and the third one "Kevlar" possesses less brain than Mohammed Ali currently has  Looks scary though...
Wish list: Galaga, Pacman, Pooyan, Star Wars cockpit, Gauntlet, Tron

And the Lord spake, saying, 'First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three. No more. No less.  Umm,  how is watching someone sitting on another person who is nearly
defenseless getting punched entertaining?!    It certainly takes Zero skill... and
is a cowardly way to win a battle.

Ground work is 1000 times more boring than a standup fight.   Ill watch Boxing any
day of the week over some snorefest  MMA event.  (though kickboxing  would be more
preferred... Its rare to see it when flipping channels)

They NEED to limit ground time to 15 sec max,  or take it out completely.   No tap out victories.  If a person taps... they stand them back up and try again.   No Ground Pound crap (show dominant position, hit twice max, and they stand you back up)

wow i guess you never seen the ADCC ..........  ground game can be boring especially when they not doing anything, but when you see lots of reversals its entertaining

BITD, ground and pound was pretty boring. Why? Because most of the time 1 or both fighters had no clue what they were doing. Now, it can be quite advantageous to go down into the guard and let the other guy think he has an edge. I have seen more than a few chokes and bar submissions from the guard.

I have to admit that the ground game has made leaps and bounds in entertainment over the last few years as more fighters learn it.

Umm,  how is watching someone sitting on another person who is nearly
defenseless getting punched entertaining?!    It certainly takes Zero skill... and
is a cowardly way to win a battle.

But I said I like GOOD ground work. You're describing what anyone would call a boring match.

I used to watch it on VHS rentals in the 90s, and it was just how fast could one guy knock down the other, get on top of him, and pound him in the face until the ref ended the fight.

With the occasional Joyce Gracie 'how long will it take me to intentionally break this poor fellows arm' bouts thrown in for good measure.

Gracie was an ---uvula---, and I have enjoyed seeing him get his ass kicked the last few fights.

Has it gotten any better in the last 10 years?

It's completely different now. This coming Saturday night on Spike there's a free PPV (contradiction?) that will be worth checking out.

Shar, that's Royce Gracie.

I thought the idea of 'fighting' was to ensure someone couldn't bring you down. Then it's just wrestling with maybe some dukes thrown in.

Yep, it's obvious that EliteXc doesn't care about the sport... Only ratings... and their precious Kimbo...
