Someone poisoned our guard dog
« on: October 05, 2008, 10:30:32 pm »
Our apartment building doesn't have a security guard but has always been guarded by Stinky the good natured dog. Like most Asian dogs, she had a ---smurfy--- life what with the heat and the bad food but  she knew exactly who belonged in the building and who didn't. You always knew that the pizza guy was at the gate because she'd bark like mad. On the other hand she never did anyone harm and loved being scratched with a brush. She was the smelliest, dirtiest friendly dog in Singapore. Someone decided it would be fun if she were dead and poisoned her. We found her lying on her side panting and pissing al over the place. She didn't last the night

Could be but I doubt it. She was fine one day and dead the other. There are plenty of people around who hated her attitude towards the less reputable characters in out neighborhood.

What kind of dog was it?

I'll assume she was inside a gated area at all times. Has anyone ever complained about her being aggressive?  Were their any tenants that were less than happy with the 'guard dog'? There are a few questions to ask here to determine why someone would have done this.

I am only saying this - dog owners view their aggressive dogs with rose colored glasses, passersby and neighbors view it thru red tinted glasses. Loose dogs and/or nuisance barker dogs can destroy neighborhoods. Even though you thought your dog was sweet, odds are there are more than a few neighbors breathing a sigh of relief at the silence now. No offense meant to you, and I definitely don't believe in harming animals. However, history shows that once it gets to a point of killing the animal, the situation is much worse than you think it is for other people.

Shardian, I don't know if those American points of view necessarily transfer equally to Singapore. For one, a guard dog for an apartment building is kind of unheard of. So who knows what kind of attitudes exist out there.

I took his post to mean she was a stray that just sort of lived there because they fed her.

You sure someone wasn't planning on eating her mixed in with some scrambled eggs?

This thread has turned really rude. This person LIVES in Singapore, expressed sadness at the loss of this animal and you guys think it's funny or appropriate to make the comments you are?

Yeah, and in China they eat dog.  The link below provides the information.

I understand it is a delicacy and when ordered, they woof it down.

I am not trying to be insensitive, but it was really was the first thing that popped into my mind when I read the OP.  I love dogs, have a beautiful girl myself:

And join the others in the world who hate how the Chinese treat dogs in captivity.  So there.

These comments are not appropriate at all.  You people should know better.

Poisoning a dog would taint it's meat.

So what if there's some truth in it? Some people eat horses over here. If someone posted that their beloved horse was poisoned it would be rude to all pile on and joke that the person could now eat their horse.

PS: Check a world map. You need some geography lessons.

No I don nid no stinkin map.

Remember the cab the OP got.  Where did he get it from?  China.

So the place is not too far from where he is now, so they must be running thin of dogs and decided to swim over for some more.  :P

Just get another stray that barks at strangers and runs away from starving Chinese guys.

Simple.

If someone on this board lost his pony we'd have better material to use for our jokes.

Stinky wasn't a pet he was a guard dog, in China.  At least that's what I got out of reading the original post.  If he was more than an alarm system that would torment delivery men, I'm sorry for making light of Singapore's loss.

Although I’d still make fun of a grown man with a pet horse, no matter how much he loved it.  In fact the more he loved it, the more I’d make fun of him.
