New computer for MAME but no password - NOW SOLVED!!
« on: October 03, 2008, 06:49:43 pm »
Collected a fairly decent PC today for free - only problem is I can't get into Windows 2000 Pro - I haven't got the password! :hissy:

It doesn't seem to want to boot of the CD so I looked for floppy solutions...

I tried Offline NT Password & Registry Editor which booted but it doesn't seem to get much further than that...

Has anyone got any suggestions as to how I can get round the problem of not having a sodding password...

Re: New computer for MAME but no password - Help! Linux Drivers Required
« Reply #2 on: October 04, 2008, 07:36:59 am »
That was the first place I looked but Offline NT Password & Registry Editor looks like the best option - I think I've figured out why it isn't running fully - the messages read -

FATAL: Module usbhid not found
FATAL: Module usb_storage not found

when loading the drivers. That makes me assume I need these drivers for it to function - although I could be wrong! Anyone know wheere I might possibly get these from?

The program runs to the point where it says it cannot see any partitions in the HDD...

Okay... I was being a totally thick-o!  :P   :banghead:

I've now got this sorted... all I can say is Offline NT Password & Registry Editor is a fantastic tool... however, it somewhat seems a little wrong to use it. Of course I will not be using the information on the hard drive for anything dodgy but seeing how this program makes access reasonably easy to get into a computer it makes you wonder what other people might do with this kind of program - it makes me feel a little uncomfortable.

Anyway, I'm going to reformat it and MAME it up! This computer is a real upgrade on the one I had previously so I'm pretty chuffed with it!

Dear Slapaham,

I am facing the same issue you encountered concerning a problem with loading drivers and the same message:

FATAL: Module usbhid not found
FATAL: Module usb_storage not found

Could you tell me how you were able to work around this problem and get to step 2? thanks for your time.

Sorry, it was a while back now and I really can't remember - all I remember was that it wasn't anything overly complicated! I think it had something to do with me using the wrong disk or selecting the wrong options to do with the drivers... or it may have had something to do with there being 2 versions and I was using the wrong one  :dunno

Sorry, not much help but hopefully I'm pointing you in the right direction... really should have posted up how I achieved it in the end but as you see there was a lack of interest at the time and I didn't bother...

Good luck anyway, I'm sure you'll figure it out with a bit of patience!
