Arcade monitor black dont look black
« on: October 02, 2008, 09:23:02 am »
Hi guys been working really hard recently on finishing my cab conversion and have installed a new arcade monitor.

It works fine and displays the imput from my pc. Only on problem the black colour on screen doesn't look black it looks faded and washed out almost a dark grey.

Im using a polo 25" monitor brand new and an arcade vga card with that resolution tool I set the quick res to 640 x 480 32 bit.

Iv tinkered with the nobs on the board and have got it as dark as it can go but still looks poor. Iv been using my apple monitor alot to set up the stuff and using it as a test bench do you think iv just got used to the really nice display of my home pc monitor or does it seem like I need to alter the resolution/ options on my monitor or mamewah skin, font etc?

If you can see from my pics the first one taken from my apple pc monitor letters are clear and readable plus nice levels of colour and the black looks sharp and actually looks black.

Second pic from monitor cant read text is not black and picture quality looks poor.

Can you guys help or is it like i said iv got too used to the great quality of my home pc monitor?

I'm assuming you've turned down the brightness and contrast?
Build a man a fire, keep him warm for the night.
Set a man on fire, keep him warm for the rest of his life.

Do you have an actual board you can hook up to it?  I'm thinking it's an input issue, IE you may need an amp.

you could try adjusting the screen knob on the flyback? you'd have to readjust the brightness contrast afterwards...no promises...I don't use mame...just something to try. ;)

It's the transformer on the back of the monitor.  You can identify it by the two knobs on the back and the red wire that leads to the tube.

The bottom knob is the screen control, which controls brightness.
